This is odd. I have never known any atheists except in college. There were two of them who also happen to be homosexual (my gay friend's friends). Other than that, I don't know of any atheists except the ones on Yahoo Answers. I have conversed with my co-workers, etc enough to know they had faith in some religion. Why do they hate Christians so much and why can't they just not say the Pledge of Alligence? Why do they want to force their atheism on us???

I don't care if Atheists say the Pledge or not.. they shouldn't make an issue if other people do want to salute our flag. And, unlike other Christians you know, I don't desire to convert. Adults are responsible for their own decisions and their own choices. Please don't flatter yourselves by thinking that we all want to convert you. I have better things to do in my life. I guess we will all find out the truth when we die.

Flatter ourselves? Puh-leees! I would hardly call a Christian conversion a flattery! And may I ask...why would you ask atheists this question then turn around and insult them when they give you an answer? Most Christians I've met were either judgemental and abrasive while trying to force their religion down my throat. This is why some atheists have a negative view towards them.

You are generalizing all atheists based on your experience with a couple of them. When religious zealots try to force religion into science classes, public schools, and use religion to start wars, don't you think some of us would be upset? Why shouldn't they? You're basically trying to tell people how they should live their lives.

And please, stop being so rude.

My best friend is atheist. Her mother is one too. Other then that, no one has told me if they are an atheist or not. But as for forcing atheism on us? My friend doesn't force it one me. We talk about this a lot. But, she doesn't have a problem with the Pledge of Allegiance because she understands that when they say "Under God" they do not mean the Christian God, or the Muslim Alla, or any God. They mean, who ever you believe brought you to life. Whoever you think the higher power is. And if you don't believe in a higher power. It can also mean nature. If they force their thoughts on you. Take that out with them, every one is different. And let them know, that your thoughts are yours, and their thoughts are theirs. Nothing in the world can change that. Hopefully they will understand. And let it be. I, a die hard Catholic and a full blown Atheist get along.

Most of my friends are atheists. I, as well, do not follow any particular religion.
It's not necessarily that Atheists hate Christianity, but rather, that they disagree with it, and find that it is sometimes contradictory.
Christianity is by far the majority, and has it's fair share of forcing the faith upon others.
In addition, why does it matter if Atheists, or anyone for that matter, to chose not to say The Pledge of Alligence. They don't necessarily have to, and nothing bad will come of it.

I know a few, it is not anything that we spend much time talking about though.
As for the pledge and other stuff why should somebody be forced to swear allegiance to an imaginary God. The words were only added in 1954 as a way to exclude atheists anyhow.
The atheists are not the ones forcing anything!
They are the ones being forced by the Christians to declare allegiance to the Christian God over their allegiance to their Nation.

Where do get get that Atheists HATE xians - we don't.
Sure, we feel sorry for you for being sucked into the Vortex of the Greatest Sting ever perpetuated in the history of Humanity but hate you? Nah.

So far as Pledge of Allegiance (do your country a favour - learn to spell it properly) goes; I'm from Oz and even I know that the original pledge had no Invisible Sky Critter stuff in it.

In 1892 the original pledge was: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
It was nice and crisp and it included EVERYONE no matter what religion; one of your amendments clearly mentions 'freedom of religion' which means 'freedom of' as well as 'freedom from' religion.

The 'under god' bit was proposed and "Eisenhower opted to sign the bill into law on Flag Day (June 14, 1954)."

Why wouldn't Atheists want to pledge such a silly thing?
If you don't understand why they protest you obviously belong to the not-so-bright crowd.

And no one wants to "force their atheism on us???"
Y'all are so used to forcing your xianity on others you think if someone disagrees it means they're forcing something on you.
Grow up; don't be silly.

I know many.

We dislike Christians because they insist that only they could possibly be right and they think everyone should follow their religious laws. We don;t have to say the Pledge because, like it or not this is still a free country. When we make an Atheist pledge and teach it to your kids in school you can complain about us forcing things on you

First of all you are generalizing. Not all atheists hate and there are Christians and members of other religions that hate. Secondly, not everyone goes around announcing their religious beliefs or non-beliefs. Thirdly, it has been my experience that Christians force their beliefs much more than atheists force their non-beliefs. As a matter of fact, I have never heard or seen any atheist forcing their point of view on anyone - ever. Religionists do it all the time.

~15 leap to mind quickly, and likely many more than that. Few atheists are in-you-face about it; most are just *presumed* to be believers because the topic has never come up directly.

I'd like to know more atheists, frankly. It would be grand to know that 70-80% of the folks I see at, say, a Walmart were atheists or other freethinkers. Maybe we all should start wearing little identity badges...

Atheist don't preach to others therefore are not as visible as those with a religious agenda to preach to others.. You likely have met far more than 2 Atheists probably not befriends as you and they would have run in different circles of friends..

I am Atheist, I do not hate anyone that includes christians.. I do not agree with christians views that does not equate hate.. I do not say the pledge of allegiance as I do not agree with the word god in it..

Am I forcing Atheism on you by defending my right to have a seperation of church and state? Or are religious people forcing their beliefs on me by attempting to impliment prayer and other religious observances into public places such as school and courts of the land?

Defending ones rights is not forcing ones beliefs on another..

Why can't religious people leave religion in churches and their homes rather than attempting to place it in public schools, courts, etc?

I do know one. He is a gay man and he is an atheist, because of the treatment he received as a younger man from anti-gay Christians. It was more important to the people around him to be anti-gay then to approach him in a loving way (as commanded by Christ) and their behavior took away his chance to know God. That bothers me a lot, because we are not supposed to be a stumbling block to our brothers and sisters when it comes to faith.

As far as atheists hating Christians, this is just another version of the ploy used by anti-gay, pro-bigotry groups to portray all Christians as being under attack. By scaring you, they get you to send them money. I don't see atheists trying to push Constitutional amendments to prevent Christians from marrying, nor do I see them wanting to prevent Christians from getting health benefits for their spouse, adopting children or serving their country in the armed forces.
