My boyfriend and I are gonna go deep sea fishing for the first time. We will probably go from 6am to 11am in Redondo Beach, California. What should we wear? Will it be cold, hot, windy, sunny etc.? Should we wear clothes we don't care about ruining? Will we ruin our clothes and shoes? Should we wear a certain type of shoe? Any advice, tips, comments etc. will be much appreciated. Thanks.

For a half-day trip you won't be more than a couple miles offshore, so wear what would be comfortable at the beach. Check the local weather reports. Wear old clothes, as they can get wrecked from fish blood and slime. (Recently they've been catching good numbers of barracuda, which are very slimy fish).
Many regular fishermen wear short rubber boots, as the deck can get wet at times, but if you don't have them, wear cheap old sneakers which can get wet. (Maybe have dry shoes in the car.) Don't wear open-toed sandals or flip-flops -- the deck is rough, and with a rocking boat someone could easily step on your toes.
Bring a camera and sunscreen, a few bucks for snacks in the galley and to tip the crew. You can rent tackle if you don't have it, and ask in the office about whatever hooks or sinkers you'll need.
One other hint -- get there early. The fishing is better towards the back of the boat, and I think Redondo assigns spots at the rail depending on when you buy your ticket. Just looking at the recent catch counts for the City of Redondo (the 6:30-11:30 boat), weekend mornings are the most crowded. If you can get out on a weekday, you'll have much more fishing space.

Weather: You can answer that better than me. Check the forecast for the day you're goin. Also find out what the SST (sea surface temperature) is where you'll be fishing. In general California doesn't have that warm an ocean so when you're in the middle of it it tends to be cool. Shoes are most important. They should allow you to run around on a wet deck. And the most important other word is: comfortable. Wear clothes that you will be comfortable sitting in for half a day and that will not ruin your day if you get stained. If you've got the boat all to yourselves (or close to it) a swimming suit you can wear under something comfortable covers your bets. I would bring a sweat shirt or light jacket just in case. I'm presuming you're going on a charter rather than a yacht. If its the latter you'll have to dress up more.
The sun will be intense so sunblock and a hat. mebee even long sleves and long pants (I know thats advice for old people :P)

i am a first mate on those types of boats ( in fla)
just check the weather where you live
i usually say
shorts, t shirt, that are comfortable and that you dont mind getting some fish blood in
and non marking shoes that will keep you cool
sandal work good
sneakers are all right too
a hat and sunglasses
the key is comfort
if it has been hot on shore
it will be hot offshore
so wear cool clothes
but they may get blood on them
so keep that in mind
usuulay
if the boat is big enough (and most are)
they have A/C or some sort of way to get out of the elements
ask the captain
he would be glad to ask
it all depends on his boat
ask him what you should wear
that would aso be a good bet

Wear clothes you don't care about ruining. Chances are the water won't be too rough, but you have to deal with bait and fish and that should put an odor on your clothes.
