Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

In Germany before the invasion(s) a government buidling was burned down

The act of a terrorist -

This is how Germany ended up being able to convince the German public that they were being attacked -

9-11 ended up in a war with Iraq and more on the way - Will Iran be next ? Should N Korea be on the list etc

In the end the burnin of the government building turned out to be sponsored by the government itself

The way to convince the public they were being attacked

Remember Bush's Grandfather was inticately involved with financing the Nazi war machine -

Well, There has always been war, and there will always be war, this will never change. Wealthy old men will debate and declare war, and young men will be the ones to fight and possibly die. Thats the way it, thats the way it will always be. Naturally there will always be people who oppose war no matter what the circumstances, it maybe enough to end a war, but it'll never end war.

I think we must be doing something right cause the SOB's responsible for 9-11 havent had a successfull attack since. As a soldier I'd rather have the bullets flying at me rather than my family and friends. 9-11 wasnt some fabrication by our government, it was an attack. Plain and simple, no spin on it. Our enemies murdered thousands of innocent people that morning. You tell me that that is not a cause to go to war. I dont care where I fight or who I fight, as long as an event like 9-11 never happens again.

Wow due to the fact that I served in the military and the fact that my husband is one of those "poor slob on a farm" who is out there risking his life I totally support this war. I may not support Bush but yes Iran does need to be next. Personally I want my children and grandchildren to be able to live in a world that has not been destroyed by terrorists and taken over by countries that want to rule the entire world.

The US is not at war WITH Iraq.
The US is not even at war IN Iraq.

There was no formal declaration of war by Congress. There was an Authorization for the Use of Military Force. Our troops are an occupying force, supporting a govt that we installed. Thats an occupation. But no war was ever formally declared as a matter of law.

As for the quote, I still agree that it's a valid assessment of human behavior (sadly).

Yes. Purposefully exposing the country to danger is equivalent to backing the danger.
