Somewhere in Africa, there is a poor family, starving and dying. Asking for food has not worked. There are no animals about to eat. Water is scarce.

The father of the family needs to feed his family, and so to do so he steals food from the market. His family eats their first meal in months, and his youngest daughter, only of two years of age, gets to live another day thanks to the food.

Will this man be going to Hell?

If I were to believe in a just, kind and wise god, then no, of course not.

"Thou Shalt Not Steal"- I'm not Christian, but these are general laws. The general person who abided by these laws would not be faced with that situation- loophooles and exceptions exist for all laws.

If the family hasn't eaten in months, what are they still doing alive? A person can only live so long without food. Where did the father get the strength to steal food? The 2 yr. old daughter would have been dead in much less than 3 weeks at the most. Your question is most illogical. You should have used less time, say for instance a week or even 2 weeks at the most that they haven't eaten. If the man is Christian and he steals, he can repent for good reason and since God knows it, his sin will not be counted. It takes a much more serious sin to go to hell. What about the man's past, were there other sins that might send him to hell if he didn't repent?
I just handled your question. By the way...I am a Christian. If I wasn't, I would have answered your question in the same manner!

No my GOD is merciful to those who are not evil.
And has stated that he who shows a child kindness has shown me kindness. also in this story the starving man has asked for help, the wrong doers are those who refused to help him. There is no hell bound crime here, not an everyday continuous sin but desperation. How could even man find fault here who is to say how the mind functions after continuous hunger. If this is the mans greatest sin, he will have much in heaven.

However outside of this single incident in this particular story I don't understand why someone would remain in these conditions and not long since leave with his family to find a more suitable place.

That really is a great question...but again "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL." All throughout the bible we see men and woman putting there faith in God in times of need and trouble relying on Him for their sustenance not their own arm...God always provides and makes a way if you can hold out and trust Him instead of taking matters into your own hands. God still works these same kind of miracles today!!! I have seen it in my own life. So the answer to your question really depends on wether or not this man has accepted Christ....because if he has he would not be stealing to begin with he would be trusting God instead for provision...and if he hasn't well then he's rejected God's plan therefore accepted judgment.

IF there was an invisible sky critter this man would never have been put in a position to have to steal cos the loving skyfu*ker would have made sure there was enough to eat for everyone.
Surely no one thinks Dubya is a better man than the one in the example.
Dubya was just a bit luckier.
Luckier to have been born in the USA.
Luckier to have been born into a family of thieves.
Just luckier.
Surely no god exists.

Dear Friend,

You err because there is no real "hell". God is love.

You seem too concerned about this physical body which is just a tool for soul growth. Better to starve briefly in body than to starve for a long time in mind or higher soul or higher spirit, or to be defective in personality unification.

Peace and progress,

NO. Whether or not you steal, murder, talk badly or do wrong upon others, does not mean you are going to hell or heaven. You go to heaven if you belive in Jesus Christ, and you are born again. And you go to Hell if you do not belive this and do not accept Jesus into your heart. The bible says we are all sinners, and stealing is a sin. but the Lord forgives us for this. When you are a christian, you try your best to not do wrong, and to not sin,. but we are not perfect. And we sin. You have a desire as a christian to be the best you can be, and to honour your God. This man, is keeping his family alive. It's between stealing, or watching his family die, because he didn't do all that he could to save them. Not a very difficult disicion to make in my opinion,. And he made the right one. All you have to do is accept the Lord. And you will be going to heaven for eternity with God. I've accepted Him....have you? I hope this answers your question,. and God bless you:)

I think we first have to determine whether the man has sinned. I think we are talking about the greater good here, which is more of a philosophical issue, but I think this is exactly why we are not to judge our neighbor. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and he knows the truth of a person's heart. God will do the right thing. We don't have to worry. But you do make a good point about the Christians responsibility to trust the Lord in everything.

If you are asking Christians if this mans sin will earn him a trip to hell, I would say yes. But, if you are asking Christians if the price that Christ paid on the cross was enough to pay for this man's sin was enough, I would also say yes. You see, the Pharisees also tried to trap Jesus with these kind of questions and he recognized their hearts. God is merciful, he forgives and understands man's struggles, that is why he paid the price for those who would accept his gracious gift.

I was young, now I am old but, I have never seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread. A man may steal to feed his family but if he is caught he will have to pay. No- he is not going to hell in your hypothetical example.
