Dear Rev. Albert,
It isn't just what the Bible says about eternal life that people don't have a clue about.
We as a people tend to want to be in control of our lives. We don't want to be told what to do. We definitely like to think that we are good people and that God owes us something because we are good, or at least we are better than murderers, robbers, liars, etc., etc., etc.
I'm not sure that people are afraid to read the Bible so much as they don't think they can understand something that was written so long ago. They don't think it will be relevant to their lives or else they say "Someday".
When I was in 10th grade I had a desire to read the whole Bible but I didn't think I would be able to understand it because of all the Thees and Thous. I didn't finally read the Bible from cover-to-cover until more than 30 years later when my life was falling apart at the seams.
It turned out to be the best thing I've ever done! Looking back I wish I had read it before I started dating, before I finished high school, before I went to college, before I got married, before I had children. But I didn't
For His glory,
JOYfilled

I find that too many people let others tell them what the bible says...God Calls us all to keep proving and testing our faith...this is an active command.
With all the cults and false prophecy now days we have to take an active participation in our spiritual growth.
I was in a cult for 22 years, and you better bet that i am really hard on Pastors and I am a stickler for accurate doctrine.

most Christians do, most unsaved dont.
1 Corinthians 2:11-16
New International Version (NIV)
Listen to this passage
11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.[a] 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:
16"For who has known the mind of the Lord
that he may instruct him?"[b] But we have the mind of Christ.
