You hit the nail on the head with your title "DISCRETION".
Officers have that choice when pulling someone over whether to cite or not. The goal of most officers is safety and if the person will learn from a mistake that we all can make sometimes a warning is just as effective. I personally would never write a car full of Nuns unless there was some real extenuating circumstances. If there was no danger and they were remorseful and I felt that just warning them would get the same result as a citation then I would let them go..after they gave me a blessing first.

At least a warning, maybe a cite. Depends on traffic level, risk to otthers because of the violation, etc.... As a police officer you swear an oath to enforce the law without bias across the board. It might be hard to cite a nun, but at the end of the day, if she is doing her job as a nun and has the correct attitude, she would realize that a citation is the right thing to do if she broke the law. I would lean toward a warning though.

More than likely, I would of cut them a break since they are morally good people. HOWEVER, if they swore to God, thats different. Weather they believe they did or didn't, that doesn't matter. As a catholic, I've always been taught not to swear to God, weather your telling the truth or not. Many catholics do and have never been taught that, but thats why the word swear has been taken out of alot of stuff.

First I would explain how dangerous the situation was. Then I would ask if she was in the HABIT of running red lights. After that bad joke, I would probably give a pass. I have never heard of a nun bad mouthing the Police On Y/A.

I'd probably tell the sisters I saw them run the light. I doubt god would waste his time proving one side or the other right/wrong.

I'd then tell whichever one was driving to be more careful and let her go with a verbal warning.

I WOULD DO MY JOB AS A PEACE OFFICER AND IF NO ACCIDENTS OCCURED. I WOULD WRITE THEM A WARNING OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF MY HEART AND TELL THEM TO BE MORE CAREFUL THE NEXT TIME.
