I wasn't aware of Zoloft causing constipation but a lot of psych meds do. I am not sure why. Are you taking any other psychotropic meds besides Zoloft?
I'm a mental health therapist and I hear a lot of complaints about constipation. In fact, it is the number one complaint along with weight gain.
I recommend eating an apple everyday and also drinking orange juice with the most pulp.
You have to compensate for constipation by getting more fiber in your diet and getting more exercise.

A lot of meds have binding agents which bind us up too. Also, a lot of us don't drink the amount of water we're instructed to on the RX flyer. Some meds relax the peristasis in the intestine so things don't move. Many people who take meds regularly advise taking stool softeners, flaxseed oil capsules, and increasing the amounts of fruit and veggies we eat which will make us healthier too.

Zoloft is used to treat depression and pretty much works similar to Ativan & Haldol which are all considered as an anticholinergic agents = causing constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, etc.

I take zoloft, and i was constipated.
It has binding agents in it. Best way to deal with it is to eat plenty of fibre and drink lotsa water. Keep a packet of epsom salts handy too.

3 - 6 tbsp. shredded coconut, yoghurt, and honey/jam/jelly. Prunes, and other stonefruit. More vegetables. Metamucil. Less meat/cheese. See depression treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 2.
