Bah... This is your home theater system and will depend on what you like to hear. If you can't hear and feel a noticeable difference, what does it matter?

Find out what the return policy is for the store. If you can try it and then return it for a different model without a restocking fee, try to find the one that sounds best for your home. Otherwise you have to compare it in store.

What you need to do is get the same movie / music to play in each one. Then situate yourself about as far as you would in your home, and then listen to it.

What sounds better to you? Each manufacturer will sound slightly different to you. The question is which sound you like better.

go for the onkyo .If you pull up total harmonic distortion of the Panasonic and Sony it`s 10% and the onkyo is only .9%. That should tell you alot. The sony`s look like the give you more bang for the buc but the lack quality.

For the price an Onkyo system is the best HTIB system available.

For $300 check this one out

For just a little bit more this is a great system

Hi there. If you are looking for sound quality you won't get it with the two you have in mind .You will only get features.A Home Theater In A Box (HTIB) will give you a very basic setup but not good sound. It can't be done for the price they charge. So the best way to go is to buy separate components one at a time if you cant afford the lot.If you have made your mind up then either one will do .They all sound pretty much the same at their respective retail prices.

Between those systems the Sony is the better one, but Mccoyblues is right about the Onkyo being better than either one.

I agree with McCoyBlue's response - the Onkyo brand is awsome and priced affordably.

Good luck!
