This is how I think it goes:
If humans were to travel into time at any point, past present or future, then there would be a safety net created for our conciousness. If humans ever will, have, or are traveling into time, then we're living in that saftey net as we speak. This is because we need something to fall back on if there is ANYTHING changed in the time that we traveled to. If we went into the future past or present, and we changed something, then when humans reached that point in reality, time would be complete chaos. If there was ever any chaos in time, then nothing exists. We would already be gone. Everything would be gone. I don't think we even exist, and all order that we ever imagined has all been an illusion. There's just something in our "mind" that makes us think, for whatever reason, that we are actually alive.
But I'll just pretend I exist for the fun of it. I mean...why worry when it won't do anything?
Sorry if that was confusing, I just don't have a different way to put it...
Ummm...whoever before me said that technology can prove that we exist missed the point of the question. I challenge someone to prove to me that we exist. Ha! You can't. Nobody can prove ANYTHING. EVER! It's all just words. Eveything's been tampered by with humans. Technology is based on math, and math can't be real because it's based on infinity. To get a number you must divide something. You can't divide infinity. Try not to be so close-minded. This isn't a bad question. It just means that the person who asked it is open minded.
Also, if time is infinite, then there's no such thing as the present! Same reason math doesn't exist. Because you....oh! Wait...I guess you can divide infinity in half. Backwards and forwards. So, I guess there is such thing as the present.
Same with space. If that's infinite, then it can't be divided to make planets or any of that crap.
I'm not sure what actually exists. Then again, I can't really define "exists".

i think most people would agree that the universe exists thanks to technology. plus, anybody that isn't blind can look up and see part of the universe. so therefore we know it's existent. life isn't a dream because dreaming occurs subconsciously. unless you're good at astral projection then perhaps you could say life is a dream. we don't know if there's other life in the universe yet anyways. there are certainly the available elements necessary for life like water, but the environments are too harsh to support life. and if the universe is 500 billion years old (apparently) then i think that leaves a pretty good amount of time for life to have existed elsewhere at some point. by the way, are you high? this sounds like a total stoner question. i'm serious, not trying to be a jerk.

Consciousness is indeed a function of brain chemistry. It allows the human being to perceive his physical and emotional environment.
Man's consciousness neither provides him with a vast dream life (except when sleeping) nor eliminates the physical world (except when the individual is deceased).
If you believe the universe is "all in your head" you've missed the point. I note that you missed spelled "conscious" by using "conscience," that quality in which self-aware beings are aware of their impact on others.
Trees exist and they make a noise, regardless if you are present to hear it, just as one might not experience an earthquake, but is able to look at the seismograph.

Life is not just like a dream.
You do live it and then you cease to live it, knowing nothing, thinking nothing, doing nothing.
Scientists know how the brain works.
The fallen tree does make a sound.
Yes, the universe exists.

Deep.
and add to that, "...and if there is no life in the universe to sense it; than our sight isn't actually reading this question-so it too is part of a dream, is it not?"

Good questions.
The bottom line: This is it. I think it's important to ask questions, but it's also important to understand that while you are asking about life, you are also living it. And when it's over, it's over.

Time stops when there are no humans left. (assuming we meet no other beings we can have true convos with)
Think about that.
