Well, the swelling goes away slowly. If you removed the gauze too quickly, you can also get the dry socket syndrome in which case it will take longer to heal. Make sure you put ice in the first 24 hours on the cheek after that it doesn't really help. My suspicion is that you didn't put much ice there in the first 12-24 hours continuously and this can cause the swelling. The uncomfortable feeling will last long and varies from person to person. Make sure you clean the socket where the wisdom tooth was so that no food gets stuck in there and cause more swelling. Gently gargle but not too strong otherwise you might break the stitches and will bleed. Use the mouthwash/anti-bacterial liquid and clean the mouth often. If the swelling and the pain is still there after 3rd day, call your dentist and ask them why pain is still there better yet most Dentist offer a check up if you don't feel comfortable. So, whenever in doubt go for a visit and let him/her examine it again to get a peace of mind. And in the end, I would say you would need lots of patience to really feel comfortable after about 4 weeks..

I had mine pulled last year, that's why I know. ! :)

Hope that helps and feel better!

Don't be worried. This is coming from a person that had 4 teeth pulled. Put ice on your mouth and try to eat liquidy foods like applesauce. If you still have pain, after about a week or two. Go to your dentist. You can take painkillers to relieve some of the pain and swelling.

No, I wouldn't worry too much! The swelling will go down soon, but everyone's different in terms of how quickly they heal. Just be sure to eat soft foods and possibly you can try taking some ibuprofen for the discomfort and swelling.

Good luck! And remember-- the worst part is over! : )

No, that is normal. Just continue to ice your jaw, and avoid using straw and make sure you follow the instructions your dentist gave you. You will start feeling better in a couple of days.

Nope. You lost a BIG tooth- so of COURSE it's going to take a few days to heal. If it's STILL bothering you after a WEEK- call your Dentist. Otherwise- chew carefully, & relax. :)

I got mine out, and I was noticeably swollen much longer than two days. And I had no complications, like dry sockets.

Yes, you could have what is called a dry socket, and it's bad, call the Dr. and get in As Soon As Possible, because an infection is starting... and that is NOT GOOD. Please do NOT Wait on this........ it's very bad and painful and it will take longer more expensive meds to get rid of the infection. or it can spread into your blood stream. go to the DR. RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
