I am specifically asking this to atheists. But I didn't want to be like so many people and say, "ATHEISTS??? What do you think about this??"
I am coming into this with the assumption that it is "to be happy and enjoy life." Am I totally off base, any different opinions or what?

There are a lot of different ones and that is to be expected. I guess the best response in my opinion is to say, Serve others. Plain and simple, because for one, happiness is a by product of helping people, and two that is the greatest commandment given by Jesus, and whether you know it or not, you are living for Him if you love to serve others. So if one day you found out he truly does exist, He would say,

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' Or (Lord, I didn't even believe in You.)

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Matt. 25:35-40.

It is a win win don't you think?

When I die, my fondest wish is to know "the world was better because I was here"

In 2004, I almost died in a car accident. I was unconscious in the hospital for a week, I was in the hospital for a month and a half, I couldn't walk at all for 6 months, and it took me a year of physiotherapy to walk without a cane, even though you would now usually never know I was in an accident.

It showed me some things.

1. There is no god.

2. There are truly wonderful people out there.

3. The purpose of life is to live it.

4. Don't let your fear control you. Emotions have their place in this world but they aren't going to help you live in it.

Every day a blue sky is wonderful, the smell of a rose is beautiful, the laugh of my nephew is worth more than all the gold in the world, and the presence of my husband makes me happier than anything in existance.

Just live your life. Its the people that matter. Its the things you do that matter. Everything else is secondary.

Life is wonderful but its no life at all if you let your fear of living control you, or rely on fiction to bolster you in times of pain. You need to find your own strength to live in this life, not have someone else give it to you.

YOU are responsible for your life. No one, and nothing, else.

The purpose in life is to live it. To really live it, not be afraid of it because some god that most likely doesn't exist, says I should be and that said god will make me less afraid.

Just live. You have nothing to fear.

To enjoy life as much as possible and to savor special times with people near to me. You only go around once.

To enjoy life, be successful, to treat people kindly, to love, to express my opinions, to contribute to society, and maybe touch people's lives...to know that I made a difference.
