i have never heard it's bad to sleep afterwards.
just make sure it's in a bed, preferably your bed, not some random drunk lay down spot.
and 1 cup won't do much to you.

happy 1st beer baby!!! lol

I'm a sleep technician in Los Angeles... The reason it's bad to sleep after drinking is because in really screws up your "sleep architecture." Not to mention the hang over if you didn't get enough water in your body.

Sleep architecture is the cycles of sleep during the night. There are 5 stages of sleep...
Stage 1 is when you're drifting in and out of sleep.
Stage 2 is the majority of adult sleep.
Stage 3 and 4 are Delta sleep, which is what really helps you feel rested. Very important!
REM is the deepest stage of sleep. It's usually when your dreaming, although you can dream during Stages 3 and 4. Even more important than Delta sleep.

A typical adult will go through the cycle (1, 2, 3/4, REM) about 3 to 4 times a night. Or once about every 1.5 to 2 hours. Delta sleep decreases with age, while REM is the same percentage of the night at age 25 or 75.

When you're drunk, or habitually get drunk, your Delta and REM sleep are decreased and have difficulties sleeping as long as you normally do. And like I said, Delta and REM are the two most important types of sleep, which help you feel your best.

If there is Sleep Apnea (Stopping Breathing While Asleep) present then the risk is even greater for you! Alcohol is a downer which act like a sedative when you're asleep and causes increased relaxation in the throat, which then causes more frequent and longer pausing or stopping breathing. This is also why people snore so much more while they're drunk!!!

It is not if you only had a cup-full;don't even worry about it.

If you drank six or more (or less if you have an empty stomach or are skinny) then you should get as much water into you as you can take and stay up as long as you can.

Your metabolism is faster when you're awake so the alcohol filters through your system quicker. The water helps to hydrate and flush the alcohol out.
If you drink a lot and don't get enough rest though, it can be unhappy the next day, so don't drink on a work night.

My advice is to stop drinking at least three hours before you plan to retire. Drink water during that time at a relaxed rate. Then go to bed at an hour that will allow at least eight hours of interrupted sleep. You will be fine, then,

If you're hardcore, drink all you want, go to bed when you're ready, and listen to those dwarves bang hammers in your head all next day! As long as it was worth it.

If you're really drunk you can choke on your vomit while you sleep. That's all I can think of...
