I know what you mean. But don't be discouraged! Just when I think people couldn't get any ruder, someone will do something so considerate it restores my faith in the decency of most people.

Hi Daniel, and thank you for the question. It reminded me of the time I was working in an office and a Muslim woman (head scarf and all) that I was walking right behind passed through a door. She knew I was right behind her but she let the door slam in my face anyway. Why? Because she's not allowed to be courteous to other men (since she's spoken for). If you think I'm kidding, I'm not. Google "Honor Killings" to see how psychologically screwed people's minds are on this planet. I agree rude is crude, but you're just seeing the tip of an iceberg here.

So...you want to deport all rude people to Venus or something?
I understand what you mean about people being so rude. The only time I ever refused to hold a door open for someone was when I was at the mall. I opened a door for this girl and she said "I don't need you!" So...I shut the door in her face. As I was walking away I heard her saying "Oh, how rude!"

I completely agree with you. I always hold the doors open for people. It's like my mom taught me, treat people the way you would like to be treated. Karma is a ***** and what goes around, comes around. I think that those rude people who see you with an armful of groceries and don't hold the door for you will some day get their due 10 fold. That thought keeps me from losing my cool when I'm standing at the door juggling my groceries as some moron waltzes past me like I don't exist.

That's a really good question. I think the root of rudeness stems from selfishness. People can be so self absorbed that they have no regard for others.
There's a really terrific book I read not too long ago called THE FRED FACTOR. It talked a lot about leaning towards the 'better angels' of our nature and going out of our way to be nicer. Sometimes, when I am in a hurry, and I have the option to hold a door open for someone, but feel like I'm too busy or whatever, I STOP and say to myself.."be a FRED!"
It's a daily battle to die to self and to try to put others needs ahead of yours, but what a lovely world it would be if we actually treated others like we would like to be treated?
Good question. Thanks for making me feel convicted to be nicer.

Because their parents never enforced proper behavior at a young age. Give a woman your umbrella when its raining, hold doors, pull out your girls chair, I remember being 8 months pregnant standing on the yellow line in the middle of the street and not 1 car would stop so I could cross. they would have rather ran me over than stop, women are just as rude as men. I always correct my sons when I see something that isn't polite and I embarrass them so they don't do it again.

In no way am I trying to defend rude people, because working in sales, I know how some people can get, but most of the time, these people are :
-tired/cranky
-taking things out on you from some other stressful event that day
-had too much coffee lol
-paranoid about other people/ have some social phobia
You get the point here right? Most of the time, people have too much on their minds to remember everything, and sometimes its their manners.
I know I continue to be nice to customers, and to my neighbors, but sometimes, there is just something that sets them off.
Continue being nice to set the example! Thats what I do.
Don't worry so much over it, these things, like life, just happen.

I think most people have been rude at some point
Sometimes i do and say rude things, but other times I'm just really nice and I feel like doing stuff for other people...
I dont know that's just me...especially if I had a bad day or something then i'll be a little more rude than nice. But yeah people are rude because that's just how they feel like being...

I know what you mean, people can be so nasty and not even think about it. I was at the grocery store one day and the checker was being so rude and not making eye contact at all or said anything to me accept the total. When she went to hand me my change she bypassed my out stretched hand and dumped my cash and change on the check writing stand in a huff. Then not even a second later she went to remove her cash drawer ( I was her last customer of the shift) it came loose and she dumped the whole thing on the floor. I burst out laughing at her luck because she had been so rude, sometimes it comes back around to them REALLY quick.
