what does it mean when it expires? does it mean its not useable anymore? and where can i buy some useable film?

You can generally use film past the expiration date, although performance may not be up to your expectations. Another problem with Polaroid film - in this case - is that the battery is part of the film pack. You might load the film and find out that the camera doesn't work because the battery is dead. Your only choice is to just try it and see if it still works.

I would think you can still buy Polaroid 600 film locally, as I see dozens of auctions on eBay that show film with an expiration date more than a year from now. Check a drug store, supremarket or ... a camera shop!

600 is pretty widely available. Eckerd (now Rite-Aid) still carries it. I'm sure other drug stores and retailers do as well.
