Aloha Turbulence,

Yes I do recall a handful of tragic incidents that hit our local Hawaii news, made headlines on our Star bulletin Newspaper & our Honolulu Advertiser back in 2004. Also brought sadness, fear & closeness with us (Hawaii locals).
1) Begining of 2004 many of our Scholfield Army Base soilders (I had many friends), Fort Shafter Army Base (I also had friends) & our Kaneohe Marine based soilders (I had friends) were sent to both Iraq & Afghanistan. About a handful of them died. They all died as heros. One of them being my best friend Navy Coreman James Woods but he was based with the Marines.
2) During this year 2004 deaths have risen with car racing on our highways & roadways on Honolulu, O`ahu. 2 of the accidents involved Hawaii Army based soilders. In 2 different cases they sadly raced each other drunk driving back to their base. They were returning from the nightclubs/bars. In each incident their car either flipped over or burst into flames. I remember these incidents because some these victims were buddies of mines in both cases.

3) I do recall a caucasian man driving an SUV right into Maui's airport. Which caused an huge explosion. Luckily there were no deaths. Everyone at the scene handled this as a terrorist act. It wasn't. It was some nut case trying to suicide himself. dummy!! He pleaded guilty. This pretty much scared & worried my family & I. Also worried & pissed off many Hawaii residents that wanted to smack the crap out of him.

Hope this helped you... aloha to you!!!

I'm sure there were many things that happened in Hawaii that could be classfied as a tragedy in 2004. Is there something specific you're looking for? Nothing stands out in my mind.....but then I don't remember what I did yesterday!

Are you talking about the Tsunami response to Asia or something that happened in Hawaii. There is nothing on the net other than a surfer being killed at the Pipe and responses to the Asian disaster.

In 2004 some tourists drowned in the ocean. The last known living Po'o-uli bird died leaving this type of bird extinct.

Malik Joyeux was killed at Pipeline while surfing.
