how do you get all the paint out of a paint roller?

Usually, the roller covers are purchased in quantities of 3 or more to a package. And that's the secret to the easiest way to clean them. The cleaning will only make sense for "soap and water" clean up type paint, such as latex. If you are using oil based, just toss the roller out when you're done, or wrap it in in plastic wrap if you're going to use it next day (this keeps the oil paint wet).

When you're finished the job, or just finished for the day, take the roller and rinse it out under running water, enough so that the bristles are freely exposed and big globs are off the ends of the tubes. Then, drop the roller in a bucket of warm soapy water and just leave it there. Next day, start off with a fresh new roller. Come back to your bucket later on, and squeeze the water out of the nap by wrapping your fingers and thumb around it and "miking" the roller top to bottom, then flip it and repeat. Finally, do this under running water. The roller will run clear very quickly this way, since most of the paint was leeched out while it was in the bucket. Last step: wrap a section of paper towel or rag around the roller, then set aside.

As soon as you are done painting, rinse, rinse, rinse for about 10 minutes depending on the roller size-then you should let it air dry-if you are going to reuse it with the same paint color then wrap it in plastic wrap which will keep it from getting stiff-you should be able to use it at least twice before you have to wash it out. Otherwise you will notice if you are using way more paint than before-time to throw it out and get a fresh one!

If it oil based paint you can use the same solvent as you thin it with. It will take several rinsing.

If latex based paints, take it of the roller frame, wash off the frame in water, put the cover back on the frame about half way.

Use your garden hose to shoot the side of the cover until it starts to spin (be outside) go up and down on the cover several times. The shoot the cover in the center until water starts to drip/pour from the cover, if the water is clean. success. If not, repeat above again.

It usally takes me about 3-4 minutes.

Clean up any other mess and you are done.
I do this about 20 times a week.

There is product called a roller/brush spinner. This is the best at washing a brush or roller when your done using them, takes half the time. This tool cost about 20 bucks. Most roller covers are 2-12 dollars. I do not like cheap covers because the fibers fall out on the wall. If you like to take care of your things, this is a good investment. good luck.

If it is water based vinyl paint you can run warm water over it until the water runs clean. If it is oil-based you are better off tossing it. That avoids the mess and smell of the paint. remover Some place is always selling the replacement roller covers so cheap it doesn't pay to waste effort on them.

wash it really good with warm soapy water. Continue to rinse it until all of the soap is out and then wrap it in towel to get out all the excess water. Finally air dry. Perfectly clean and soft the next day!

Your better off just throwing them away. paint rollers are cheap. You would have to keep it under running water and keep squeezing it from top to bottom, that is it you are using latex paint....oil based paint,,forget it, no way

if your gonna use the roller say a differenet day but with the same color you can wrap the roller in plastic and freeze it

I just throw it away. You can soak in TCP and water and then dry it if it's fairly early.

rinse it and wash it with dish soap... for about a half hour,,, and use good hot water......it wont get every bit out,,, but most of it.
