The mother has an obligation to protect her child and keep him safe. She may very well have been a victim too, but she's still liable for her child's safety and well being. If she failed to keep the child safe in this situation regardless of the reasons, she could fail to keep him safe in the future. I assume she was charged with failure to protect, if not she should've been.
I didn't read the article, I'm just going with the info. in your question.

I am a appalled that a mother would allow this type of abuse to be inflicted on her child. i always thought a parent was to protect their child from all harm. This mother is looking for a reason to distance herself from this .In all likelyhood, given the opportunity she will return to the "man" who did this. This innocent child will live forever with the physical and emotional scars of her abuse.I hope the mother and her boyfriend are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,but even so it will not make this child whole. There is never an acceptable excuse for allowing someone to hurt a child.Did anyone ever complain about the injuries on this child before it made the news? If we suspect a child is in danger don't we have a moral responsibility to get involved? We are the voice for the children who cannot speak for themselves. Many will say the woman was too frightened of the man to stop it.Can you even begin to imagine how afraid the child was and how she was waiting for someone to stop it?

You know something I live in the same State she lives in. Massuchusetts. right now that sick, disgusting, "thing of a mother" is sitting her *** in a prison cell at Framingham State Prison for Women. She is where she should be for the rest of her misable life. She should never get out of prison, she is as guilty as her abusive boyfriend (like she puts it) what I think of him, he is one sick mother****** that gets off hurting children. He also deserves everything that is coming to him., I believe he is waiting trail in Medium secure jail, Not the famous prison in Massachusetts, that Walpole State Prison ( THE WALL). If by chance they serve little or no time, then they should be watched by maybe a bracklet around there ankles FOREVER. They both should never be allowed to get there children back especially the little girl they abused and any other children she or he has. They both should be fixed so they should never have children. They don't deserve the pleasure of having the precious gift of life. And it is true that little girl is going to grow up knowing that the two people in her life hurt her so bad that no matter how much couseling this girl will have in her life time it will never be erased in her memories, it will be with her till the day she dies. Oh & She's learn to live with it, but it will never go away. But she will also grow up to be a better stronger person.

I'm not saying it's right, but the mother may have also been scared/ abused by this guy. Usually battered women are too frightened to believe anyone can really help, so they don't say anything. Also battered women for some reason still "love" the abuser and don't want to hurt him. IF this is the case, she didn't "let" it happen...SHE SAW NO WAY OUT.
Anyone passing judgement on this mom and hasn't been in an abusive relationship needs to STFU.

I used to live next door to an abusive guy who beat up his wife on a nightly basis. He beat me up as well really bad because I was drinking beer with him and his wife and they made dinner for me next thing you know he wants to play fight and so I set my beer down on his tv ever so gently and his big screen falls over he beats the living daylights out of me after he is wanting to playfight with me and I have a beer in my hand where else was I supposed to put my beer. Well long story short the cops were called they can't do nothing he is hiding in his house and he explained to me that if he went to jail I would be murdered and nobody could do anything about it. His wife pleaded for me not to call the cops cuz she told me he would have me killed and her as well. He knew alot of people in Nevada where I was living at the time. I called the cops a few more times without him knowing cuz he was keeping me awake cuz he was beating her up but there was nothing anyone could do or would do. I helped her get away one time when he was in jail and I moved all of her stuff out with her and moved her to her friends house... Two weeks went by with him "Where is my wife I miss her so much Waa Waa Waa I love her so much I miss her man I wish you knew where she was" I didn't tell him nothing. And he was all apologetic wanting me to be his freind again and "I am so sorry I didn't mean to beat you up dude I will literally suck your D$#% just be my friend again I miss you man" well two weeks later she shows up and moves back in then its all over again beating her up all the time and blah blah. So don't think that the mother just let this happen there was nothing she could do. THE LAW DOESN'T DO THERE JOB WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS. When I got beat up he was hiding in his house and they were knocking on the door but he wouldn't answer and the cops were all well there isn't anything we can do "Sorry!!" You have to get a warrant for his arrest. He was scaring the crap out of me with the whole murder stuff so well I just left it alone maybe I did the wrong thing I don't know.

Alot of people let this little girl down.......
gotta love the mothers friends who are standing up for her by saying that she was scared of her bf. ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE SHOT!

OMG! This is horrible! No that is no excuse. A mother should protect her child at any cost. To let a "boyfriend" abuse your child is just sick! The mother has issues of her own and look what she has caused for her child - a life of hell and torment.

This baby should be taken away and put into safe enviroment and no one who was aware of this situation should be allowed to see this baby EVER again. I can't imagine a mother letting someone hurt the baby like this...this made my heart hurt!

So terrible, and such a sad example of how people think. That anyone would worry more about a relationship, than protecting a child that they brought into the world is pathetic.
