"JazzLand": Many New Orleans area residents believe "JazzLand" was a clever, savvy and mega-expensive front to attract the "five-star" amusment park franchises to the city; Six Flags took the bait......

.....who'd ever think Katrina would come along? The historic hurricane, compared to Camille in deadly destructive wrath, made twisted metal scrap of the multi-million $$$$ Six Flags amusement park.

At last word, Six Flag owner(s) have unsuccessfully made attempts at wriggling free from their ironclad contractual bonds with NOLA; to date, Six Flags has NO plans for park reconstruction. Bottom line: Six Flags New Orleans is forever dead.

Six Flags latest strategy is to cut their losses by selling physical parts of the park that they can and hold on land ownership till the contract(s) expire--which may be some sixty or so years from now.

The park has been closed since Katrina all but destroyed everything in it. The owners are currently trying to find a buyer to take what's left of it as salvage. The Big Lots in my town recently had a huge display of everything that could be salvaged from their souvenir shops.

The message on the Six Flags website simply says this:

Looking for Six Flags New Orleans?
Six Flags is still in the process of settling claims with its insurers due to substantial damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. As a result, Six Flags New Orleans will remain closed for the 2007 season. We know that it is still a difficult time for the residents of New Orleans, and we remain committed to working with the city in support of the recovery efforts.

The City of New Orleans has positioned out a solicitation for bids to redevelop the park. I feel they're cleansing up the website online and making ready to exhibit it to skills builders. Also film scenes were filmed on the park and mostly the park has been lit up for that.

sitting there growing mold and collecting dust since 8/29/05. It was struggling before Katrina but that just nailed the coffin shut.

It closed due to damage from the storm. At this point there are no plans to reopen and will most likely not reopen.

They have been closed since Katrina and will likely never re-open. I don't think they even still have the website.
