I used to teach puppy kindergarten classes and it was so much fun! Look for a teacher who is experienced with puppy training--lots of socialization, play time, and gentle training with lots of praise and treats. A typical 6-8 week course can run around $10.00 a class on average. You may need to attend more advanced classes as he grows and learns. There is also a lot you can teach him now in the meantime--I strongly recommend Dr. Ian Dunbars book "AFTER YOU GET YOUR PUPPY". It will teach you everything you need to know on puppy training. Dr. Dunbar is the one who first introduced puppy kindergarten to us over 25 years ago. His web site is http://www.siriuspup.com

Congratualtions on your puppy! How exciting! And how great that you recognize the importance of training.
I highly recommend taking obedience classes through your local dog training club. I know mine offers puppy classes.
In my area, it's $75 for a nine week class. I've just taken Beginner I and Beginner II - I don't think there's any difference for puppy class. You get a $10 discount if you have a rescue, and after your first class, it costs just $65 per session. You can do as many classes as you like. I've repeated some of mine because my dog needed the work, and I hope to be able to go on to agility one day. But we always get a lot out of it.
One of the advantages to class is that it's great socialization for the dog, as well as good training for both of you!
My vet recommended the classes through the dog training club because you have to have verification from your vet that your dog is healthy.

Puppy kindergarten is usually 150 dollars and runs 6 to 8 weeks. Pups start at 9 to 10 weeks of age.
Each additional obedience class will depend on what you wish to teach your pup but I highly recomend them. Here in CT. the next class after puppy is good manners classes and run for another 6 to 8 weeks and they are usually another 100 to 200 dollars and worth every penny. The next level is advanced manners and they run about the same time frame and the same cost.
These classes are not only fun for you and your dog plus you bond really well and they learn so much and so do you.
Good luck with your pup!

Mosy puppy classes will run about 8 weeks long, and cost about 85-100 dollars. Of course after the puppy classes, you will want to take the next 2 classes which each will run about the same in price and length.

this all depends on where you go and teh trainer.
It works if you practice as suggested and usually the beginners is jsut that and the next class is needed as well and some palces also do puppy classes so that can be the total of 3-4 classes adn teh best on near me is $75 per class that last 6 weeks each.

get started in training as soon as possible. lots of socialization is also very important. cost should not be a factor, a well trained dog is worth every penny. I have had GSD for over 25 years. since you have a large breed dog, it is your responsibility to train it properly, we have to stop the breed banning that is taking over our nation and the best way to do that is training and socialization

You'll have to check in your area.. classes available and cost. You will want to wait til you get his vaccinations completed before you take classes. He is still very susceptible to common dog diseases.
