Yogurt is often suggested but poor substitute for the real thing,, Make time and go to the store for the real stuff or change the menu

Your first answerer gave the right instructions for using yogurt, but if you don't have yogurt and have some cottage cheese, here is another alternative.

Sour Cream Substitute
From Diana Rattray,
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup creamed cottage cheese
PREPARATION:
Combine ingredients in blender; cover and process until smooth and creamy. Use in dips or in other recipes in place of regular sour cream.
Makes 1 cup.

Plain yogurt is the best alternative, however, you can try mixing lemon juice or vinegar in milk to sour it. Adjust your liquids accordingly for the recipe.
