I've noticed females occasionally throughout my life that wear long dresses with their hair always tied up but never knew why until recently.

Do Holiness woman ever take their hair down and wear something other than a dress?

Women who dress holiness get their dress code from several verses in the Bible and from studying the nature of God. You might also notice that many of us don't wear make up or jewelry, either.

Here are the verses that give us guidelines:

1 Timothy 2:9-10
1 Peter 3:3
1 Cornithians 11:3-16
Mark 7:22 (there are several similar verses that deal with lasciviousness)
Deuteronomy 22:5

The length of the skirt goes along with not wanting to be a stumbling stone for any man. In other words, far be it from me to tempt someone by wearing too short a skirt.

Choosing not to wear makeup is (at least for me) because every mention of makeup in the Bible is in a negative sense. (2 Kings 9:30; Jeremiah 4:30) It is never spoken well of.

There are many different views on holiness and what is acceptable dress and appearance and what is not. But generally you will at least see, like you said, long dresses or skirts, as well as long hair.

I think we put it up all the time because it either is too hot or it just plain old gets in the way, but there is no "rule" against having our hair down.

I hope that answers your question.

"Where does the dress code for holiness females come from?" - modesty in public?

"Do Holiness woman ever take their hair down and wear something other than a dress?" - I'd rather not imagine this, but I would hope for their husbands sake they do. A little dancing and moonlight walks.
All these children came from someone with their hair down...

I know something about this because it is how my parents raised me. The legalistic dress code comes from a few isolated verses in both the Old and New Testaments. These are man-made constraints and have nothing to do with Jesus and His teachings. It is a preoccupation with outward appearance being used to reflect the church you belong to. I do believe in dressing appropriatly for society or the weather and such, but do not believe that wearing of a "uniform" is necessary or Biblical in any way. We were allowed to take our hair down at night to brush it. And we were not allowed to wear anything but a dress except at night when we wore a long night gown. Holiness is in the heart of the believer---and when it comes down to it, "there is none holy save one, and that is God."

I am not "a holiness woman", ( If I am understanding your term to be a bible thumping christian) I am Jewish and I dress modestly, not because my husband makes me which I find so stupid of others to believe that all women who dress modestly are made to do so, I made my own choice.
Yes, I let my hair down sometimes, and I do have jeans, but even then I dress modestly.
And it isn't all holiness women, there are Islamic women, Jewish, all kinds of us who make the choice to not expose ourselves as much as others do. Some just like to wear a dress or skirt!

The holiness women I know wear dresses and never wear jeans or slacks. They do let their hair down when they want to.

When Pentecostalism was born in early 1900 that was the style. It does not come from the bible because during bible times men and women wore robes. It is a human tradition. They think by doing so it show the world how holy they are.

It started, as I understand it, as a conservative dress in the late 19th early 20th century. They just never changed it. It became tradition.

I had sex with a holiness girl once in high school. Boy did she let her hair down!
