Dalian is an amazing place. Because of all the hills like in San Francisco, there aren't any bikes or mopeds. Which means less crowded streets. It's relatively clean and the air is not thick with pollution. There's lush green mountains everywhere, which is very pleasing to the eyes. The city reminds of a very relaxed and laid back Hong Kong. Though the ocean views aren't as good as Hawaii or other places. It's pretty good for China. Travel a little outside the city and views get much better. The city has a great atmosphere. Great shopping, night life, and tourist attractions. Check out the city zoo. It has great animals and this amazing cable car ride that takes you over the peaks to the other half of the zoo. The city does have many squares, each with their own style.
There's also a small town about two hours outside of the city. Luxung, not sure about the spelling. It used to be a battle site between the Chinese and Japanese.

I've been to Dalian a couple times. I live in Harbin, just North. It's a nice , clean (by Chinese standards) city that is a major North China port.
Dalian was lucky to get a good mayor a few years back who really put a lot of positive work into the city making it what it is today. He has since gone on to work in Beijing.

Dalian is a not bad for an American to visit.
But if it is the first time for you to go to China. I suggest you to visit some other cities before Dalian, like Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Guilin...
Of course the Great Wall, Terra-cotta warriors, ... are more interesting for you.

Dalian is one of the most beautiful and clean city in China, not so crowded like Beijing and Shanghai, a lot of Russia and Japan influence, a lot of squares, don't miss XingHai square. Best time to go there is May or October, it gets pretty cold in the winter. To answer one of your other question: Why Asian women like white male, all the answers you got were wrong, the women admire your money and green card, they don't care about your D.ick. I would say 95% of them don't even like it so big. Asian men can be very good in bed too. Be careful.

I've lived in and traveled a good many places in this old world and I'm no fool when it comes to Social Studies and Sociology/ Geography, Speak three languages including my own ethnic language but I got to tell you...I got no idea where the hell Dalian is!!

I went to Dalian last year. I'm from New York and for me, it wasn't really that bad. I love that place where it's like Russian.. I don't know what you call it but it was really nice.
