While Oxnard has great beaches, be careful of the ones you go to, not all of them have lifeguards and rip currents are a big concern. I would suggest Silver Strand beach, beautiful views, lifeguards, and safer swimming area. If you are staying near Casa Sirena or the resort at Mandalay, those are the beaches to watchout for.

Channel Islands Harbor has a few okay restaurants, we really like Spectrum at Channel Islands Blvd, hard to find but good food. Ventura Harbor has more shops. Both harbors have canoes to rent, paddle boats, and you can rent electric boats at Channel Islands Harbor.

Downtown Ventura is very nice, good shopping and restaurants. A day trip to Ojai is fun. In Fillmore there is the Old Western Railway to ride. We have a mini golf right off the 101 Fwy on the frontage road off Victoria Ave.

There is an art museum in Oxnard, and the Mission San Buenaventura in Ventura. You can rent horses in Santa Barbara and Goleta (next town up from SB). There are also rides out of the Ojai Valley Inn. Santa Barbara is an easy day trip as well, the pier is fun and so is the zoo, all in the same area.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is just out the 126 fwy in Valencia, takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

The Peterson Auto Museum is in Oxnard just off Oxnard Blvd, plenty of old classic cars.

The Salsa Festival is coming up the last weekend of July and is fun, and the Ventura County Fair starts August 1, which is really fun, a good old-fashioned fair with good entertainment.

For restaurants in Oxnard, there is Pirates on the corner of Victoria & Fifth Street, our local favorite. In downtown Oxnard there are 3 new restaurants that are really good, an Italian place, Mexican and Steak/Seafood place.

Enjoy Oxnard!

There is a local Kayaking center and the best thing about Oxnard is it is right in the center and close to everything including Malibu and Santa Barbara. The fair grounds at Ventura usually has motorcycle racing (speedway) and various other entertainments. check out this other site for attractions, parks and activities.

There is plenty to do in town. Oxnard is famous for salsa festivals and strawberries. Take a ride to Carpinteria and Santa Barbara (about an hour up the coast). You can watch the dolphins and seals in Carp. or enjoy old Santa Barbara (college and somewhat religiously themed town) with its shopping, pier, and fine restaurants.

Bonfires on the beach. Wine country. Driving the PCH and finding cute places to shop and eat like Santa Barbara.
