Greetings, fellow Christians we are all aware of the Devil's purpose or goal for our lives. To steal, kill, and to destroy. But personally why do you think God allows him to live and terrorize the earth? -Because he COULD just kill off all demons and the devil himself- Whats Gods purpose for him?

"Christian insights only?? Why would you only want to hear from one religion on this question? I have a good theory/answer but won't impose it on you since I'm not Christian---next time try to be courageous enough to hear what everyone has to say!"
My bad you're right... But each question I ask about Christianity most atheists bash and name-call which shouldn't be the foco point of my question.

God has long range plans, and He has already spelled out Satan's fate. It is not for us to try to outguess Him, but become as aware as we can be of His purposes and work with Him.
Jesus taught us to pray: "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth ...."
That prayer includes a prayer for the casting down of Satan from his position of authority as the "Prince of the Authority of the Air" and "god of this Age".
If all Christians would take Jesus' instructions more seriously, this show might have been wrapped up yesterday.
Christians are waiting for God to do something.
I believe God is waiting for Christians to do something.

God does not have a "purpose" for Him. Jesus will come and destroy all evil once everyone has made a choice either for Jesus, or against Him. Until then, we are stuck in a crappy world.
Edit: "But wouldn't God's 'purpose' be to let us choose good vs evil... And by us choosing good we become stronger in him."
No, think about it. It doesn't fit with the Bible's description of the controversy between God and Satan. Satan is still around because it is not yet time to judge the wicked. There is still planting and harvesting to enlarge the kingdom of God before that happens. Satan once accused God of being unfair, that accusation had to be answered properly by God. If He had simply destroyed Satan then, the rest of the universe would have had sympathy for Satan and doubted God. So He has let things play out. Unfortunately we joined the wrong side. That made things a little more complicated. Jesus came to earth, showed God's true character and proved Satan wrong. Now, Satan has been defeated, all the universe knows the truth. But some on earth have not heard about the whole affair. Until then, Satan is alive, working to destroy as many people as possible.
While it is true that trials and tribulations can bring us closer to God, God is not keeping Satan alive to simply give us trials. God wants our trials to end, but it is not yet time.

Hello, I have believed figuratively for a long time that we are like 'chess pieces in a'spiritual game between the two forces.' Choosing which side will we be used for? Light or darkness. You're right, God could have destroyed satan instead of casting him to the earth with his fallen angel followers. But He did'nt. At times I wish He would have!! Anyway, God is soveriegn. In His wisdom He places before us the freedom to choose whom we will love, serve and obey. There is a bit of 'competition' between the two. Consider the story of Job. God practically boasts of Job's faithfulness unto himself to satan. In which then satan incites Him to 'put Job's loyalty to the real test!' Yes, eventually, Job passed the test, with flying colors! He even recieved a double portion blessing from God for his faithful endurance. I believe in this world we will have many trials, however Jesus overcame the world and all spiritual forces. His Word says that as true believers, "Greater is HE that is in us, than he, that is in the world. My favorite picture of 'the devil' is in the wizard of oz, remember that guy who tried to make everyone think He was 'much bigger' than he really was? Only God knows the whole story about his presence here. The good news is we don't have to put up with his evil ways forever. Thank God for that!!!!

Greeting my friend GOD can kill the Devil but he gives everyone a choice if he kill the Devil then it would make him look as if he is a coward...he gives us a choice he is a fair God always have been and always will be okay...so that means he wouldn't kill the Devil...God has no purpose for him...the devil is evil he creates all evil he is the root of evil...GOD says whosoever will...he does not force himself on anyone but if he kills the devil he would be making him unfair and that is something he will never be....

I agree with the poster who asked "Why only xtian insights?" As a practicing theistic Satanist, I can assure you that Satan is not about stealing, killing, or destroying. This is the xtian point of view. Satan is as much about love and peace as is god. Likewise regarding evil. It is up to the follower to take the power they draw from either deity and turn it into good or evil. How many people have killed in the name of god over the last thousand years? How many holy wars are waged in the Middle East in the name of god? When is the last time you heard of a war being waged in the name of Satan?
I don't think god has anything to do with letting Satan live. They are in no way connected to each other, and in no way does either have control over the other. For me, I personally believe god has lost whatever power he ever had over the world.
As a theistic Satanist, I believe very strongly that Satan is a true, tangible entity whom I will someday meet when I die. He is the power here on Earth. That does not mean he holds power over everyone, only over the planet itself. Satan controls the "natural" forces of the Earth. I draw on these energies to harness His power. What I do with that power is strictly up to me, not Satan, and certainly not god.

No, God has no purpose for him here. When Adam sin in the garden of eden, he gave satan the title deed of the earth realm. Adam was to be the little god of the earth realm, and so did satan, that is why he tricked him into sinning against God, which disqualified him. That is why satan is moving rapidly through the earth realm, and cause of Adam's sin God has to allow him. But that is the reason for Jesus coming to take back what the devil stole. He is correcting Adam's error.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

He didn't zap Satan back then so some time could go by to prove to us and all the angels (including Satan) that we cannot successfully rule our own lives, apart from God. It's just about been proven, and God will step in before we completely destroy ourselves. God is also going to use Satan for one final test at the end of the Millenium. (Rev. 20:3)

The way I understand it-there is both good and evil in the world. God never promised us a perfect world. He did promise to be there with us to help us get through difficulties and that includes onslaughts by evil. It's just like hard times toughen us up. It's the same with evil. It makes us better people.

Hey, 666-
Do you really believe all that garbage you just said? Then Satan has really fooled you. That is his plan. Satan only has the power God allows him to have -- for now. He knows what his fate is. If Satan is as powerful as God, then why did he get thrown out of heaven by an angel? You follow Satan. That is YOUR CHOICE, but GOD GAVE YOU THAT CHOICE, NOT SATAN. SATAN PROMISES MANY THINGS TO PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH, AND MANY ARE LED ASTRAY. He has power, for sure, but, not over God, and not over us. He has to deceive people to get them to follow him. Then, when he has your soul, he doesn't care what happens to you. You will go to the Lake of Fire with him, if you don't turn from him, and follow JESUS. Are you afraid of the name Christ? I see you put an X in place of His name. Even the demons tremble at His name. They know who He is, and they know their fate also. One day EVERY KNEE WILL BOW BEFORE JESUS CHRIST, and they will confesss that HE IS LORD!!! Whether they want to or not! That includes your "mighty" satan!!!! He was already defeated when Jesus died on the cross. He tried to stop it, but couldn't. He tried to tempt Jesus, but it didn't work. Why do you think that is? Because he has no power over Jesus. He knows that. That's what makes him so angry. That's why he goes after everyone who follows Jesus. His fate is sealed. "It is finished."
