My 14 year old cat had what the vet called a "cyst" on his neck for several months. We were told not to worry about it. Then in the last couple of weeks, the cyst started getting bigger. Yesterday we noticed that it was visibly protruding out from his hair. It looks like a big skin-colored pea. We decied to return to the vet today... but then we noticed it was gone. We found the "cyst" sitting in his bed. No blood on it, or visible scratch marks. It looks like it just fell off. Anyone ever hear of such a thing? We saved the "cyst"... I know, I know... but we are wondering if we should take it and the cat in for a visit with the vet. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I agree with that. The cat's ok, it could be an encapsulated globe type of fat deposit that just migrated up and out. If the vet wants to he can send it to the lab for his own information, but since it's off your cat, no need for you to worry any further.

Offer the ball to the vet though.

Most cysts do stay on the body, they generally are attached to the inside of the skin. But it's not unusual for one to do something like this.

would not be a bad idea to see about sending the "cyst" off to a pathologist and find out the source. IF there is no visible mark on the cat where the mass was, probably no need for an exam.

this is the first time I have heard of a cyst falling off, but I guess anything is possible. take it and the cat to the vet and have it checked out.
