While running around Parris Island, our Drill Instructor was running backwards beside our troop yelling at us. He ran backwards into a sign knocking himself down. We kept going, but one Private broke rank to go help him. The D.I. yelled at him for breaking rank and said "I have been a soldier for twenty years, I think I know how to stand up!"
Personally, I think it was hilarious that the D.I. would rather sit there and bleed out his head rather than have some recruit help him!

yea - even an old grunt like me knows that no jar head would ever refer to himself as a soldier. The flag is up beyond a doubt.

What I find funny is the D.I. calling himself a soldier. I served eight years with Fleet Marine Forces and once served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman at Parris Island. Any Marine NCO who called himself a "soldier" would have his club membership taken away. LOL!

How about the old story about the guy that stood up in the infiltration course with machine gun fire over head. A Sergeant tells him to get down, and the guy says "clank, clank I'm a tank". Heard it several times from different sources. Then there's the old story about asking for volunteers that know how to type, the eager volunteers were then taken to the supply room and made to carry several typewriters from one building to an other - that story is probably true; sounds Army to me.

Not to many Marines been in 20 years and are Drill Instructors, running besides their platoon..this would mean someone high ranking was leading your platoon on a run

im raising the bull s h i t flag on this one. I too am a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman and no marine would refer to himself as a soldier and no buddy there is no use of the word SARGE in the marine corps. well at least not in the infantry. i dunno how u POGS do it.

Hey, I picked up on the exact same thing, that'd be like me going into work and calling myself a marine, even though I'm in the army.

Yes. When I was in Basic in 2007 at Ft. Sill Oklahoma, this one kid **** in another kids boots because he pissed him off. He knew which ones too do it in too because we alernated winter and summer boots everyday as a part of our uniform to break them in.
