If you have a checked bag, it doesn't matter the size or amount of liquids or gels that you pack. If you're just planning on taking a carry-on bag, I believe pretty much all airlines have the same regulations. It can't be over 3 oz in size and all items that are liquid or gel have to be able to fit comfortably into a quart size ziplock bag. They will ask you to remove the bag from your carry-on and place it in a seperate thing to be checked, but that's all there really is to it. Good luck!

TSA's rules are basically this: All your liquids, gels, creams, lotions, pastes, and aerosols, have to be 3.4 ounces or less in container size, concealed in one quart-sized clear plastic bag (one bag per passenger), and must be declared (removed from your carry-on) when you go through screening.
This means stuff like toothpaste, shaving cream, hand lotion, sunscreen, peanut butter, yogurt, eye contact solution, hand sanitizer, aftershave, cologne, etc. http://www.tsa.gov has all the rules for the liquids and gel restrictions, though I'm not sure if they have an in-depth list of what they consider a liquid/gel. You may want to call security ahead of time before you go through screening and find out that you have something you can't take with you in your carry-on.

Here you go!
check everything that you don't need. Most drug stores like Savon or Rite aid have travel size toiletries. use those and if they confiscate them no big deal. However; here is the rule.
3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.
Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.
Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.
3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.
here is the web site if you need more info.

TSA changed the liquid and gel restrictions to allow each person 1 quart-size ziplock bag packed with containers 3 ounces or less. I work at Minimus.biz 9www.minimus.biz) and we carry everything travel-sized. All of our 1,000+ products meet TSA's 3 ounce rule. We have shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, contact lense solution, meds, snacks, and more! Free ground shipping on orders over $20 and if you enter 'ziplock' at checkout, you get a free quart-sized bag for your carry-on toiletries.

The airlines do NOT set the restrictions. The TSA sets the restriction. Check out their website at www.tsa.gov. It has more info than you could ever wish for. You may carry gallon jugs of non flammable liquids in your checked bags if you wish.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
Gels, lotions and toothpaste need to be no larger than 3 oz. and ALL fit in ONE one-quart ziplock baggie.
