Try to wash off as much as possible. Use Dawn dishwashing detergent.

It would be best to take the cat to the vet now, and take the WalMart flea medicine container along so he can tell what's in it.
If that's not possible, keep a close eye on the cat. If she shows any unusual symptoms including drooling, licking her lips, strange eye movements, take her to the vet immediately.

A double dose of Frontline would not be harmful because it stays on the fur and skin and never gets into the cat's system.

But who knows what was in the WalMart stuff. Never use any flea treatment you can buy over the counter at a pet, feed, or grocery store, especially not on a cat. They either don't work or they contain chemicals that can harm a cat. The only safe and effective flea treatments for cats are Frontline and Advantage.

The Frontline won't hurt her, but the stuff from Walmart might. You have to be careful with those types of flea products, as many contain permtherins and pyrethrins, which often cause seizures in cats. Stick to the Frontline or Advantage. Both can be put on every 2 weeks for a couple of treatments (this from the company itself--the reps come into our office all the time). They don't get absorbed into the bloodstream like BioSpot or Hartz products, so they are extremely non-toxic and safe.

Wash the new treatment off, it's a pesticide and you don't want her absorbing it. Use soap and water, you don't need to immerse the whole cat in a bath, but at least get the spot where the treatment went and get it really good!

These are pesticides, your cat shouldn't have two doses.

We use Advantage, but Frontline is just as good. Here, at the height of summer, in flea weather, the dose works for 2 and a half months on ours. I try to use as little of this stuff as possible.

Well, I guess you could try to wash it off. The good thing is that it is a different flea treatment and that it's been two weeks since the last one. I wouldn't worry to much about it. But I would call the vet and as what to do about it. There is always that possiblity that the cat could get sick from it. Just call your Vet and see.

Most flea remedys do not recommend treatment with multiple products at once, a toxic or fatal overdose could occur. Read all literature that comes with your products and only treat your cats when you will be there to observe and supervise.

You can call Walmart and ask for the service number of the company that makes their flea treatment, and then you can contact Frontline and pose this question to them. They can tell you what the toxicity threats really are. They can tell you what to do. If Walmart won't give the info, file a complaint against them.

I don't think your dog is in any danger, but checking is good for the safe side.

No. It will not hurt your cat at all. For serious flea infestations, or things like scabies, multiple doses of revolution (a flea treatment) are given a week apart for 4 weeks.

the stuff you buy OTC can be toxic to cats and puppies. It is best to stay with frontline or advantage. You should bathe the cat in Dawn dish soap, then call your vet asap or the local emergency clinic for more advice.

Not much you can do now that its happened. Watch for any signs of illness and take her to the vet ASAP if any arise.
