It is actually a fairly big decision to get one, because once its on, it's permanent. It can definitely be cool, but it can affect your relationship, (Unless you don't tell her). It's for your dad, so I can understand, but perhaps something else would be more appropriate. A small memorial plaque in your room, or maybe a place with his portrait and some things he loved and owned would be better. Your dad loved you, but I'm not sure he would want you to be carrying your mourning of his death all through out life, even if it is just symbolically. A tattoo is for life, so its not something to be taken lightly. Perhaps a few more years of contemplation would be better.

I have three tattoos and each one has a story. My first one was when I turned 30 and I put it on my ankle. I was with a friend who also turned 30 the same year. The second one was six years later and was put on my back. A life long friend and I were on a road trip and we decide to mark our friendship with tattoos. Not the someone but symbol of who we were as people. The third I just got this year. This year I turned 40 and had to have a major surgery. So I wanted to honor my children and the life I gave them by having a Celtic symbol tattooed on the upper middle part of my back. I guess what I am trying to tell you is make sure that you want the tattoo, put it some place that when you want it to be seen you can do just that and have a story to go with it. This piece of art with be with you forever!
Check out the parlor on line and ask about how their machines are cleaned and what they do with the used needles.
Good luck. If you have any doubt wait...you can always get it.

You do need to be 18, Unless you have a parent go with you and sign a waver.
Just wait till you are 18, then you can get it without a problem. In the mean time, keep thinking about what you want, draw it and do some tweaking till it's to your liking. then take it to the tattoo artist and he/she will be able to make your dream come true!

if you are old enough in the state that you live in and your mom will allow you to then you seem to know what you want and it isn't likely that you'll regret getting it BUT just going to a clean shop is not enough. in order for you to truly be happy with your tattoo you need to research tattoo artists and look at portfolios to find someone who will create a tattoo for you that is worth the skin. not all tattooers are artists and a memorial tattoo is a wonderful thing but not if it doesn't look good. also don't bargain shop. great artists are usually much more expensive but TRUST ME it is worth the extra expense. if you need help finding an artist in your area i'd be glad to help.

I think that having a symbolic tat to you're father is awesome but I would put allot of thought about it and its placement.
To honer you're father you should not have to hide it !
place it on you're shoulder with a tribal or Celtic band under it or some thing that symbolizes you and you're father heritage!
A rose is good but does it really connect?
When you honer some one wear it proudly!

I'm sorry about your father. No, I don't think you are too young, and it has meaning, which makes it even more okay. Cons? I don't think there are any, except it's premanent, but if it's like a tribute to your father, the'res nothing wrong with that.

God says not to mark your body. Plus I have known many people that come out of those places with newly found diseases. My friend Scott just got Hepititus C. Plus when you are old, your skin will sag and so will your tattoo. I understand where you are coming from, with the whole memorial for your father... My mom died when I was eleven... I am 15 now. I know it is hard to live with and you want yourself and others to remember him... But it is best to hold his memory in your heart, and not on your skin... for the above reasons. Do what is right and his memory will live on, in you and all the others that knew and loved him.
Sincerely,
-Heather B

You gotta be at least 18 to get one, but you will regret it, one of my teachers used to be a nurse and there was this lady who had tatoos on her, and now that she's old, they tatoos look really saggy and droopy. So just do what you want
