I’ve been a weightlifter for 19 years. I've always been an avid swimmer and cyclist, I've studied martial arts intensely, and I've practiced Hatha yoga since '94... But personally, I find resistance (weight) training as the superior exercise methodology. My reason for this is because maintaining consistent, multilateral tension on the skeletal structure keeps bone very healthy, and it's great to off-set degenerative effects of aging. I also believe it was a very effective component in my rapid recovery from a serious motorcycle accident that put me into a coma, and required physical therapy to learn movements again because the adaptive response to weight training conduces rapid recovery. I attribute the speed of relearning movement to the fact that I was redeveloping preexistent cognitrons. I believe that, although there are many good methods, weightlifting is the best in developing all around fitness. Consensus?
