Ditto to above answer! You should love what you are doing and do it for the sake of that you love it!! Then if fame is in your future and it is meant to be, it will come! Doors will be opened and opportunities will be presented to you! But, until then, if you do not have money for professional lessons, the best thing to do is practice, practice, practice! Sing every day and explore different ranges, styles of singing and writing your own songs. You may also want to try looking in the paper for bands who are advertising for lead singers. This would give you some experience and a foot in the right direction. Sing in your local church choir and sing specials. Go to nursing homes too, anything that will give you practice and exposure! Good Luck and Keep following your Dream!! Don't give up! If you want to be a singer then go for it! Maybe try out for American Idol or One of the other Talent shows!

if something really matters to you, You will do what you need to do, whatever that may be. It means you may have to give up free time now to practice or get a job to pay for lessons.
Practice is boring. I know. But it's the only way to get really good. by the way, just singing songs isn't practicing.. Ask that voice teacher you will soon be going to. He or she will tell you the same thing.
And BTW, all the other answers are right on the money too.
You're getting some good advice here.

Having a job to raise money to pay for lessons is always good approach. You can also consider the "Just Do It" approach. You're good enough to sing, just get some guys who play instruments, form a band and start singing. You've got to love you and what you can do. If you do, others will love you too. Keep in mind that to be famous, people must want to hear you.

Forget fame--most singers never get famous, no matter how hard and long they work at it, no matter how skilled they are. Focus instead on technique and quality. If you sing for the sake of singing, hard work will never disappoint you. Be very patient with yourself and your voice, because it takes many years of training to reach the professional level.
What kind of singing do you want to do? Classical? Pop? Musical Theatre? Opera?

"Famous" is not a skill you can develop.
Work on your talents, and strive to be the best you can be. Fame will only come if you are fortunate enough to become associated with something that becomes hugely popular -- and the only way you'll get cast in such a project is if you've done the work to become excellent.
So never make "fame" your number one priority -- it will doom you to mediocrity. Instead, always strive to both be your best AND constantly learn/improve.

Get a job so you can support getting lessons, if you're old enough to be employed. And/or learn to play a musical instrument. When you go to college, study music and business.
But remember one thing- if you're pursuing music only because you want to be famous, and not because you love music, you're going to find it very difficult to succeed.
