Hello, George:

You must understand that when you can not succeed in burning all the Bibles, then you must make people think they are not intelligent enough for God to give you understanding, so they need a Church to define what the Bible says.

The same thing is done with Mormons. They say, "Fool, don't you know that God is a god of many people" so they present another Bible.

Then along comes Islam with Mohammed's special Bible.

But mine says: "If anyone preach another Gospel, let him be cursed."

To set the record straight, God reveals who the Antichrist is in a Bible code. I was amazed, so will you. http://abiblecode.tripod.com

The Catechism is not a Gospel. The Catechism is a tool used in the instruction of Catholic Beliefs and Practices. 'Catechism' means 'teaching'. There is nothing wrong or otherwise inappropriate in using the Catechism for instruction in Catholic beliefs and practices.

I was raised Catholic and no longer believe in the Catholic teaching though I am still a Christian believer.

Catechism is just the name of the religious instruction. It is not a new gospel.

This is the definition of catechism and it is the same definition used by the Catholic church:
Main Entry: cat·e·chism
Pronunciation: 'ka-t&-"ki-z&m
Function: noun
1 : oral instruction
2 : a manual for catechizing; specifically : a summary of religious doctrine often in the form of questions and answers
3 a : a set of formal questions put as a test b : something resembling a catechism especially in being a rote response or formulaic statement
- cat·e·chis·mal /"ka-t&-'kiz-m&l/ adjective
- cat·e·chis·tic /-'kis-tik/ adjective

The Catechism of the Catholic Church
+ Is not another Gospel
+ Is just a summary and explanation of what we believe and why we believe it
+ Includes thousands of references back to the scriptural bases of our beliefs

As Pope John Paul II's letter approving the Catechism states, we "will find in this genuine, systematic presentation of the faith and of Catholic doctrine a totally reliable way to present, with renewed fervor, each and every part of the Christian message to the people of our time."

An online version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church can be found at: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm

With love in Christ.

You are using a Biblical buzz-word, "another gospel" to construct a false argument. A catechism is simply a distillation and organization of beliefs for purposes of instruction.

The Didache was a "catechism", composed in the Second Century. No one has ever called it "another gospel". Every sect and denomination uses instructional materials. Do you regard church bulletins and Sunday School lessons "different gospels"? How about Chick tracts? (Actually, THAT would be true.)

The Catechism is not in the bible and is not a gospel. The Catechism is basically the Catholic 'handbook', so to speak. It details the Catholic doctrine, including sacraments and basically Catholic 'rules and procedures'.

"The Catechism" is "a Gospel"? I'd fail any first-year seminarian who gave that answer. I'd fail a kid from Confirmation Class that made such a ridiculous statement.

You fail Dogmatics 101, my friend. Try again when you have actually studied a Catholic (Roman or otherwise) catechism....or even an elementary-school level history of the Christian Religion

i'm lutheran. in the lutheran church, we have a catechism, which is a kind of commentary on what the bible teaches, nothing more. it's just there as a study guide and an explanation. here's an example of what it contains:

''78. what is sin?

sin is every thought, desire, word, and deed which is contrary to God's Law.

1 john 3:4- 'everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.' ''

luther's catechism is just a study guide. if the catholic book is the same, i see nothing evil about it.

and yes, father k, we have the augsburg confession, the nicene creed, the apostle's creed, the athanasian creed, etc, etc. like you say though, we never claim them to be another ''gospel.'' they're just a confession of faith. manmade writings NEVER replace the Word of God.

sola scriptura

Jesus commanded the apostles to go out teaching and baptizing.

He never specified how that should be done, and he never even suggested that it be done using the bible.

The catechism is an teaching tool of the church that explains virtually every Catholic belief and practice, complete with scripture references and other citations, in a way that most people (possibly even you) can easily understand.

The Catechism of Pope St. Pius X: 11 Q. whilst would desire to toddlers be dropped on the Church to be baptised? A. toddlers would desire to be dropped on the Church to be baptised as quickly as available. 12 Q. Why such rigidity to have toddlers get carry of Baptism? A. There would desire to be the terrific rigidity to have toddlers baptised because of the fact, on account of their comfortable age, they are uncovered to many hazards of dying, and would't be saved with out Baptism. Auctorem Fidei by using Pope Pius VI, August 28, 1794: [blunders of the Synod of Pistoia.] The doctrine which rejects as a Pelagian myth that place of the decrease areas (which the common frequently designate by using the call of limbo of the little ones) wherein the souls of those departing with the only guilt of unique sin are punished with the punishment of the condemned, unique of the punishment of fireplace [...] is fake, rash, injurious to Catholic colleges.

A catechism is a manual for instructing people in the faith. Protestants have them, too.
