Recently I notice my 3 year old son keeps shrugging his shoulders while he is working, when he does this he also shakes his hands a bit. Another thing he does he has this phrase "little heaven" when he says this he grits his teeth, and tenseses his body (by the way I dont know what "little heaven" means) I am not so concerned about the second part of this question as much as the first. I know when kids are small and they cannot fully express themselves they ie if they are upset excited angry they may act that way. But whats up with him shrugging his shoulders. Thanks guys

just to clarify when he shakes his hands its not violenty or anything he hands are both to the sides of him and the hand shakes a bit after shrugging his shoulders. His vocab is great, everything else is on target so to speak, maybe except for the potty training LOL. Thanks

when he shrugs its probably about 2 to 3 times. To the responder who made the comment re: "my husband" I am a single mother :)

The hand shaking could be what is also called hand flapping. This is seen in children with autism. You should have him evaluated by a doctor, autism becomes noticable around age three and has a higher incidence in boys. Good Luck.

Sometimes children don't know how to let their little bodies relax. Perhaps the shrugging is to relieve tension in his shoulders. Try a chiropractor. Maybe they can do temporary treatment and include some exercises you can do at home with him to help him learn how to relax his body.

"little heaven" sounds sweet but I don't know why he associates those words with feeling tense. His vocabulary is still growing so I wouldn't worry so much about the word association- maybe if issue #1 is resolved, this one will just go away.

Children are all different, no worries.

Sons love to imitate their dads. To this day, I lick my lips when working with my hands. Watch your husband. Does your husband shrug his shoulders when he works? Does your husband grit his teeth, tense his body, and say something that sounds like "little heaven"?

Do you do any of those things?

I would mention this to your pediatrician next time your there, if not too long. This could be just a behavior habit that he has picked up or it could be something more.
