Obviously two people that never served. You better believe in what you are doing or you are going to end up dead. Those that fluff it off and take things lightly make stupid mistakes that end up cost not only their lives, but others as well.
I served my country out of HS and I believed in what we were doing everyday I was on that ship. That is the only way you get through. You have to believe that you are making a difference or what's the point?
People, ignorant people, have compared this to Vietnam. Ask those guys if it's the same. They would take Iraq over that jungle of hell any day. We toppled a regime, we destroyed their government, and slowly we are building it back up. What's the hold up? Not us. One basic understanding that we as Americans take for granted that the Iraqi people are failing to grasp. The freedom of religion. And the seperation of church and state. No, we are not building another America, we want to leave a peaceful, strong, and safe Iraq. And if the men and women that are over there doesn't believe in what they are doing, they need to tell someone right now. Will they send them home? No. But, they will make sure that they are never responsible for anyone's back.

Possible, but I doubt it. Pulling out just because things aren't going the way you intended them to is immature. Pulling out would make us a bigger target of terrorism. You'll give them the impression that they can get what they want if they be patient enough. Pulling out will be wasting the sacrifice of the falen soldiers - soldiers who lost life and limb. Most soldiers might not know what the mission is but they definitely will oppose leaving all the time and sacrifices that they've put in to waste.
Most of the soldies who b*tch and moan about it are the less educated ones and the ones who signed up for the wrong reasons. There is no such thing as "graceful exit" to real soldiers.
Part of the Infantryman's creed goes like this:
...Never will I Fail my country's trust!
Always will I fight on!
Through the foe...
to the objective...
to triumph overall!
If neccessary, I will fight to my death!
By my steadfast courage,
I have won over 200 years of freedom!
... I yield not;
to weakness,
to hunger,
to cowardice,
to superior odds.
For I am mentally tough, physically strong
and morally straight!
I'll forsake not;
my country,
my mission,
my comrades,
my sacred duty!

Soldier here.
I think things are going a lot better in Iraq than the Media lets on. I'm in Kuwait now and have been to Iraq several times, as recent as February.
There are SOME in the military who oppose the war, but they are the minority. Usually the younger and less educated soldiers, though, rightfully so, some are older, more experianced and educated.
Bombs Away has never been to Iraq, yet he always tells others to go. Can you be hypocritical about being a hypocrite?

I believe in my country (notice I sad "country" and not "President") and I will do whatever my country calls me to do (and as a verteran of this war I have answered that call once so far). However, I think we need to get the FI_ICK out of there. It's not that I don't believe in the possibility of good that could have come out of the mission; it's that the mission is not going the way it was intended and therefore we're causing more harm than good.

i think every soldier is proud of what he is doin there.
If they didnt fight im sure the lames that complain about wars would be the first to be killed by terrorists at least we can hope!
Anyone who is opposed to this war obviously has no power or anything cause its in effect so let them cry and complain while we take all the good jobs and run this country to protect those crybabies.

my brother just got back from iraq.. he said the way the media portrays things is nothing like reality. he would know, wouldn't he?
like most people, he doesn't fully know why we're there, but that's not exactly the role of a soldier, and i think most soldiers understand that.

I would say 2/3 of our military does not even know what the real mission is. What is our mission in Iraq? How many average citizans even know what the mission is in Iraq?
How many Soldiers know what the mission is in Iraq? How many soldiers wives know what the mission is in Iraq? How many soldiers familys know what the mission is in Iraq?
I have been to Iraq and I can tell you my knowledge and understanding of this issue or the issue of Iraq is probably not much more than yours. I came home with more questions than answers.
Are we there for oil? Are we there for the Kurds? Are we there for peace keeping? Are we there for nation building?
How many people are able to see the big picture of this issue ? I think not many at all. I think we have grabbed the tar baby and we are stuck in a quagmire.

My best friend is a brilliant guy and in Iraq. He no longer believes in the mission, but he did at first. He said it is chaos over there now and things are not at all better than when they started. :(
