Yes, pay your bills on time - every time. Have stable employment. You can start with store credit (Sears, Target, etc.) because they are more willing to extend credit (small credit lines) to people at the check-out line of the store.

I advise if you get a credit card to go thru your bank so that it's a visa or mastercard. Don't get a department store card because the rates on those are ridiculous. Once you get a card, pay it off each month. Other ways to improve your credit are with car loans, maybe a small personal loan through your bank. I would also recommend opening a savings account...it won't make a difference on your credit report, but later on when you hit a tight financial period you will have the cash available to pay your bills and therefore not create a negative mark on your credit!!

You can take out a loan from a bank, if you're 18, and just use the same money to pay the loan back. Of course you would have to pay interest.
The easiest way to get a credit history is with a credit card. Just be sure to pay off the entire balance every month. It takes years to straighten out a bad credit history.
Work up a budget on how much you can spend for clothes, entertainment, rent, etc. and put it on a spreadsheet for every month. Then save all your receipts for everything you buy, so you don't overspend. Put your receipts on the spreadsheet and you won't overspend. Good luck!

A personal loan co-signed by someone will work if you do not want a credit card.
A credit card with a low limit is a reasonable idea if you use it wisely.

the best way to develop credit is to go to target, and get one of the member cards. Then after six months you should recieve a visa target card.

A lot depends on your age;-} can't tell from your avatar.
You get credit by using it, & not abusing it.
Start small, by getting a store card where you shop.
Make a few purchases (as needed) & pay balance promptly.
Some banks have a kid's card, where you deposit money.
It's not really credit, but it gets you started.
