I would spend much of your time telling them what you want to get out of your college experience such as exposure to all different types of culturs etc. I would also spend a lot of time telling them why you want to experience those things. The admissions office isn't looking for how much time you studied for a test because to them it doesn't matter if you studied 4 hours or 14 hours, as long as you recieved a decent score . They also like when students are involved in some activities but not too many. Being involved is great, but being overly involved sometimes puts too much stress on students which can cause them many problems down the road. As long as you are balanced and have well rounded activities on your transcript along with an essay that is genuine you should be fine.

Read and understand the questions thoroughly. Have someone proofread your answers. Make sure your grammar and spelling are correct.

Write out your essay and put it away for a couple of days. Then re-read it and make changes as necessary. Express yourself as clearly and simply as possible. Organize your thoughts. Never use a long word when a short one will do.

Remember the person who reads your essay will have read hundreds of other essays. They will be able to spot phony, contrived answers right away. Portray yourself honestly-- you have qualities that are unique and if you can capture them it will make your essay stand out from the others.

seeing as you only get about 500 words for the essay i would try to think of a specific experience that had a big impact on you. Think of your extracirruculars of some personal event. Tell how it changed you and made you a better person. I wrote about family stuff and how it made me stonger and ready to take on the challenges that college would present. DONT talk about your tests, or list your achivements. That is what your transcript is for. The essay is your only chance to really let YOU be shown! good luck!

brag about your "good" life, how you spent your time volunteering to help out the community (just to get into college), and how much money and time you spend on your SAT tutor sessions, how well of a GPA you getting.

blah blah blah & good luck
