There are few possibilities:
1. Guilt conscience - something you have done or have not done to your friends. Projecting her death is to remind you how sorry and you may have missed the chance to say sorry in reality and that is why you cried in the dream.
2. Feeling empty lately - If you are feeling emptiness lately and you may be seeking support. In your subconscious mind, your best friend is your best support. You project the worst because deep down you want people to understand you and your best friend fits for this in your subconscious mind. That is why no one else seem to care about it.
3. Movie or media effect - Any movie, book, actual experience from friend or relative can trigger you dream something like that. If so, it may merely be your version of those stories.
Whatever it is you should know better after you examine your life lately

There are several reasons as to the reason you may have this dream.
Is your friend seriously ill? Is your friend already dead?
Without getting more details, it is hard to give an exact interpretation of this dream. But based on what is given, I'll give it my best shot.
You are very close to your best friend. The reason you seem to be crying uncontrollably is because you were so close. You felt as if your world, your life, and everything in it revolved around the two of you. You felt of if this person was your sister. The reason no one else in the dream didn't seem to care was because you felt that no one else could understand the pain and lost that you are feeling.
I had the same type of dream when my cousin passed away. We were like blood-brothers and were very close. When he passed away, I felt as if no body cared he was gone and that no body could understand the pain and loss that I felt. I still feel that way but not to the same extent as I did when he died 16 years ago.
The best thing to do is to tell your best friend exactly how you are feeling and try to get some closure, if this person is still alive. If this person had already passed away, go to their grave and pay your respect. Things like this takes time to heal and get over.
Remember this, for every loss you face in life, God replaces with something just as good if not better then you previously had. Don't blame God or others because it wasn't their fault. Just pray that someday, you maybe able to meet again in the spirit world.

To me it seems that you are a very good friend and you have a very strong bond with your best friend. If something was to happen to your best friend you would feel lost without her because she is the only one that knows the real you. You may feel that she is the only person in this world that not only cares about you but that understands you. (This I get from the part where no one else in your dreams cares that you are crying).

The dream is reflecting your desires as well as the unfinished part of your relationship. I agree with the first responder but I would add that because you still cry, you have not reached a resolution. Knowing that you think the relationship is unworkable because of your college plans, you must consider which of these is most important. You are still young and you must remain open to life whatever that brings. Acknowledge your feelings and express them. Realize that going into college is the start of major changes to your life. Being unencumbered and ready for new experiences in college will enable you to truly know if this relationship will last. It sounds like you are already aware of this. That is good!

your friend symbolizes the fellings that you have when you think of her. She obviously makes you happy and you look to her for guidance in life. Something recently made you think of death and something else triggered thoughts of your friend. When you were asleep, your brain was going through the thoughts of the day, and those two things came up and mixed together. Thus you have the dream of your friend dying. Now we gotta hope that it doesn't come true. lol!

Occassionally all dreams are is the subconscious preparing to deal with our deepest fear. Yours may be losing this friend, and that was brought to the attention of the subconscious by her temporary absence.
That's probably all it means, you don't know how to deal without your friend, and your subconscious just told you to think about it.

You are afraid she will leave you or ignore you in some way.. The fact that you were crying and everyone ignored you represents your feeling that nobody understands you or your feelings. You feel like there will be an empty spot nobody can feel.

My guess is that you have strong feelings for your friend, and you are thinking that you would be lost without her, and you are afraid of losing her as a friend. Somewhat insecure?
