This has never happened to me, but I just got a cold yesterday with a bunch of back-to-back sneezing. & today, my chest hurts to simply breathe, swallow, or laugh. Is this really serious, or part of my cold? I've never had chest pains with a cold.

It is probably muscular pain from sneezing so much. Give it a couple of days, and if it is still there and worse, then go to the doctor, but wait a couple of days.

Why not call your doctor? Let a physician examine you and determine if this is serious or not. Emergency rooms often have interns and young doctors fresh out of medical school working there. They don't know what you have so they run unnecessary tests and give you antibiotics and then do a wait and see for 24 hours.
Now if this is really bad and it's the weekend, by all means go to the ER. Sickness does not take the weekend off and if your doctor is not available, you should go to the ER. But in the future, try to see your own Primary Care Physician. Most doctor's offices have a doctor covering the evening and weekend hours. You can go see that person or they might tell you to go to the ER.
It is better to go to your doctor first and then let your doctor decide whether you should go to the ER or not. It's also a better move for getting insurance coverage.

Yes it could be serious. Colds do not usually cause chest pain. You could have pulled some muscle with all that sneezing, which probably wouldn't be serious, but you never know. I would go and get it checked out. It is only Saturday; if you don't go to the ER you won't be able to get it checked out until Monday. That is a long time if it is something serious. Go, go, go and see what is going on. Good luck to you.

It is possible that you pulled a muscle in your chest by sneezing, but to be on the safe side, you need to go to your physician for a possible chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia or bronchitis.

sounds like it settled in your chest. Could be a little bronchitis as well. Give it a few days and if it doesn't ease up, see you doctor.
