I am 17, and am having spinal fusion surgery. I have several friends that are extremely religious. I want to know, is it weird to ask somebody to pray for you?

I somehow managed to damage a nerve, causing all muscle along my spine to atrophy. because of this, there is nothing to support my spine, so the weight of my torso was too much for it to handle, so it is curved, like I have scoliosis. i am getting a rod screwed onto several vertebrae until they can fuse together. Thanks for all of the prayers and great answers.

no it is not weird,
and whether you believe or not, that doesn't really matter as long as the one praying does.
and if you don't mind then i will pray for you also.

We ARE Our Brothers Keeper! I know that in Todays World where "Self" is All, this is not going to win any "Brownie Points", but we are told in Scripture "Ask & U shall Receive, Seek & U shall Find"!!! It also says that if several Agree in Prayer on the Need for Something it shall be Honored by God". Then too, if we Don't ask for Prayer, we take "Blessing" from those who would Pray for Us, & I'm sure U don't want that to happen, Right??? I thought not! I have a Close Cousin in Kerrville Tx. that has had maybe 20 such Surgeries in his life to correct the "Curvature" in his back & he is now 54 & doing well. So with the advances made in medicine today, it's a "Walk in the Park"!!! Don't worry, God Delivers!!! John

I dont think it is weird
the more positive thoughts going out there the better in my opinion
and that is how I like to see prayer ... as a means of getting some positivity going
and if you trust in that prayer , this gives you hope and hope gives you happiness and happiness helps with healing

all my best to you with the surgery xx

Of course its not weird to ask someone to pray for you. IF your friends are religious, then they probably already are, but its a good idea to ask them. The BIble says, "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." It also says, "Again I say to you that if two of you shall agree on earth as regarding anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in Heaven. "

If you feel comfortable enough, you shouldn't ask them to just pray for you, but specifically tell them what you need prayer for--i.e. to give you peace during this time, to help you feel less anxious, to come out of the surgery ok, or even to guide the surgeons hands.

No, it is not weird. The Bible teaches us to pray for one another. I had a heart transplant, and had hundreds praying for me. (That was 6 years ago. I'm now healthier than ever). I'll also pray for you!

Allah accepts the prayers meant for others more, because it is the most unselfish act when you ask for someone else instead for your own
