They also left THAT for weeks, all nicely hard and caked.
How do I clean this best w/out damaging the hard wood floors further?

Hardwood floors. I did the housesitter thing once and they forgot to now only do the litter but the food and water (thank god it was only a weekend). Don't dicipline the cat for it cause it's not his/her fault. The cat was just looking a a clean spot to use the facilities. I'm sure he/she didn't want to use your floors. First clean it up as best as you can. And disinfectant spray won't harm your floors as long as you don't let it sit there. You will need to spray it on and quickly wipe it up. This will kill germs and also the scent on the floor so it doesn't happen again.

Gawd, hope you deducted the money for that off what you paid them. If you paid them.

Removing old poop is easier than urine, be grateful. Scrape off as much as you can without gouging into the wood surface, then take some paper towels, soak them in water and lay them on top the spot. Check every 5 minutes, add water if necessary, you have to make it soft again. Sometimes spritzing water directly on first helps. When it's soft enough, use the paper towels to get it up. Then take a sponge or washcloth and use a soapy mixture to clean the wood. Run a dry paper towel over the wet area and that should do it.

I know it'll smell, but try to think of it as a hairball you just didn't find for a while...

Good luck.
