Download CutePDF from download.com or the cutepdf.com site. It will make what appears as a printer called CutePDF in your print dialog box. You choose that printer and the print won't go to paper...it will open a dialog box and ask you for a file name.

While Adobe Reader, which can only read .pdf files, is free, Adobe Acrobat, which creates .pdf files is not. You can always use a free utility like PDF creator to convert a .doc file to a .pdf file. You can download it at (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,62649-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html(

Here is the description:

Creating a PDF file doesn't have to be a difficult, time-consuming process. PDF Creator is a printer driver that lets you create Adobe Acrobat files from within most Windows applications.

Once PDF Creator is installed, you can use it from within your applications. If you are working in Microsoft Word, for example, you select "Print" and then choose PDF Creator as your printer. We found it to offer a wide range of options for controlling the output, and it even creates password protected PDF files, so you can limit users' ability to print, copy, or modify the documents.

Go to http://pdfonline.com. It will convert your word file and send a pdf file to your email. It works pretty good but only one at a time.

Or find freeware in Google as "pdf converter".
