The MEF is NOT like the 101/82nd Airborne...with out getting to specific, different in size, different roles of attack, no attack from the sky (MEF), a MEF can support itself, while the 101/82 requires support

desertviking described a Marine Expeditionary Unit. A Marine Expeditionary Force is built around a Marine Division, Air Wing, Force Service Support Group, and their headquarters element. It is a larger and more flexable force than an Army division. Usually, the Marines deploy parts of a Marine Expeditionary Force, either as an Expeditionary Brigade or as an Expeditionary Unit. The Army is trying to imitate the Marine combined arms approach with thier new Brigade Combat Teams. They are similar, execept that they don't have the organic fixed wing air support of a Marine unit.

A Marine Expeditionary Force consists of an infantry battalion, and air wing component and a logistics component usually embarked in a group of amphibious vessels designed to land those forces ashore. Some of the infantry regiments which provide those battalions are special operations capable.
The two army divisions you cited are airborne divisions, designed to be inserted into an area of operations by jumping out of perfectly operational aircraft.
There's no comparison.

Expeditionary forces are a patchwork of smaller units taken from larger units, along with specialized units such as tanks, mortars, artillery, etc., that are needed for a specific campaign. These units are generally selected based on the training they have received and their proficiency in the larger unit, from whence they came.

the completed marine corps won't be despatched right into a battlezone unexpectedly. They do it in cycles. 1st MEF would start up, then bypass on for besides the undeniable fact that long, then circulate the activity over to 2nd MEF and so on.
