i think thats bulls*it, has our country ever fought a giant superpower, i mean think about it the last poerful country we fought and beat was the british in the war of 1812 which doesnt count cause it wasnt like a big war, and the revolution we got help from the freanch. japan is a freaking small island so it aint and we got tons of help in world war 2, the vitanamese war. vitnam aint that powerful of a coun try so why the hell do ppl say we are the best army in the world. we cant really take on big counries ourselves. i wood think the most powerful wood be like china or sumthing.
(obvisiouly iraq doest count as a powerful country)

When you deal with the strength of an army of super powers, it not just only planes, bombs and tanks. The main reason why the USA is the only superpower is because of its economical strength.
Take for example the Second World War – the US army was not in its peak when the war started and the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. But when the US entered the war – it harnessed its great economics and was able to produce more ammunition and tanks and planes the then Germans could.
Today the US has been in war for about 4 years in Iraq and Afghanistan before. Any other nation that would have tried to do the same would have been bank robed long before.
There are more reason like for example the fact that the US has the most technology advanced weapons. Obviously technology is also a byproduct of cash…
Power is money, and the US has lots of it for now.

This is a ridiculous question. First off Britain and Japan are about the same size yet you blew off Japan because it is a 'small island.' A country's power isn't determined by land mass. Vietnam and now Iraq are a struggle because of the type of war. Their tactics were/are unorthodox. You can have as many soldiers and as much technology but you can't beat a suicide bomber. Why? I think that's an obvious answer. France had their asses handed to them in Vietnam before us. Russia was run out of Afghanistan in the 80s. Germany and Japan were both powerful countries during World War II and we did defeat them. I'm in the army now. Russia is on the decline but I will admit that China is actually quite powerful and graining on us. But for now we do have the most powerful military in the world.

well it is obvious that you have no clue about anything military. for starters wood, i mean would you use spell check it makes you look stupid when you can't spell what your trying to say. china has a large army in terms of personal not necessarily technology,tactics, and other things that increase your chance of winning. japan had a more powerful, army and navy than we did at the start of WW2 and some more technological advanced weapons than we did. ever hear of the long lance torpedo they had capable of running in shallow water at high speed, better than anything we had for torpedo's. in the European theater in WW2 most of the personal, and material to wage war was supplied by the US, learn the facts then come back and ask a more thought out question.

Mmmh ....would this be the same army which got their asses kicked out of Vietnam by a peasant army, and when things got though they fell apart, half of them were stoned out of their brains or killed their own officers on more than one occasion..fragging I think the term was....and the the same army which quickly withdrew after being attacked by a few Somali tribesman, or the same army which is now facing defeat in Iraq....Best my a**!
Most powerful army in firepower terms perhaps, but best -no way!
Bunch of Trigger happy cowboys who kill more of their allies and thousands of innocent civilians than the enemy.
My father fought alongside the Americans in WW2 and even then the British had a saying -If the Germans fire the British duck , if the British fire the Germans duck, if the Americans fire ,everybody ducks!!! Seems things aint changed much since then!

well your missing the main idea. It doesnt matter how big the countries we fight are. that has no factor in determining how powerful we are. its our weapons and tactics. our army has more weapons, more technology, and more skill than any other country in the world and that is a fact. we spend so much money on our army there is no reason why we shouldent be the best. china probably has the worst army in the world. they have very little technology and skill.
before you ask us a question, ask your self this:

Do some research on the Trident Subs - you will see the reason why no one wants any part of our real military. We fought too gently in Viet Nam - we always fear the image of overkill. Oddly enough the WW2 Nukes probably saved many lives as devastating as they were.

if nothing else, think of all the expieriance our military gets each and every day. there is no other country with expieriance that could match out military. not to mention how much we spend on the military each year. china has a huge military, with little to no expieriance in battle. i doubt if there technology could match ours if we still lived in the 80's.

The British Army is, by far, the smartest (i.e., best educated) and has weapons that are comparable to ours. You don't hear about British troops raping and murdering innocent civilians or torturing Iraqi prisoners, do you? The Brits are even capable of tracking down and rapidly bringing justice to home-grown terrorists. When we try, it's a clusterf**k. Oh yeah; go back to school and learn English grammar and spelling. It's clear you are a product of our rotten American schools, too.

It doesn't matter how big our army was in the past because right now we spend more money on our military than any other country by a landslide. (We should probably be spending a little less money on military, and more on healthcare and education though...)

You're going to get flamed but I see your point. Here's how I feel we're so P.C that it affects the effectiveness of our military. If allowed to open up whup azz unabated then yes far & away we're #1.
