Should the US be doing everything in its power to protect unarmed civilians from death? Are they?

In August 2006 (the last month we have data for who killed how many civilians), there were 3309 civilians killed in Iraq. Of those who killed more and how many?

Is it correct for the US military to go into daily battle to try to eliminate those killing innocent civilians?

The answer is my blog, in the article entitled "The Surge." http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-DfkctJU7dK5B7LcNROoyVQ--;_ylt=AiNXZokI1G6zowgYXNnJS9msAOJ3?cq=1

About 3000 a month is average, though the numbers keep increasing every year.

The problem is that Iraq is in the middle of civil/sectarian war, and that most of the people fighting would count as civilians.

Also, because of the nature of the conflict, civilians are targeted because being part of the other group (any other group) is itself considered a crime/threat. So, each of the several different factions are targeting anyone they see as the enemy -- regardless of who is currently carrying weapons.

As a US soldier with boots on the ground in Northern Iraq for the 12th month now I can tell you things would certainly improve if IP (Iraqi Police) and IA (Iraqi Army) could be left alone for one day without being babysat....they are fu**ing useless. They will do what they are suppose when they are around us and as soon as they think they aren't being watched anymore they get extremely lazy or even better they fight with IP. I have seen gun fights between IA and IP if you can believe that. We arresting IP and IA daily for being corrupt or helping the enemy. And when they actually do start improving we have the Iraqi Border Patrol or IBP who are only awake maybe 5 hours a day and accept bribes from insurgents to cross because they are not bombing IBPs providance and bombing another one. It would be like Texas allowing insurgents to bomb Ohio because its not there state. Iraqis are some of the laziess mother******* known to man and they want us to do everything include police their own land........yes we are responsible for some but if they did there job we would be home by now
