Ok, I am not a loud person by nature. I studied music, I understand the dangers of damaging your ears etc. However, I recently moved into this great loft. Now, the floors are concerte, but unfortunately the walls are drywall and, well, I have (absolutely gorgous (!), but..) loud neighbor. Actually, it's her home stereo system. She doesn't do it often, however, there are times I just want to drown out her sound (imagine walking into an Abercrombie and Fitch store and hearing the music FULL BLAST).

No, I really don't want to ask her to turn it down. Why? I think this is one of the few things she enjoys in life. I feel really bad, actually. She seems like quite a nice person and all of that. Honestly, if you start telling your immediate neighbors to keep turning their stuff down it really puts a damper on positive neighbor relationships.

Anyhow, what is the LOUDEST non-audiophile system I can get? :)

Wow, great answers guys. And yes, honestly, I would normally love to ask this girl out, but she is:
1. My next door neighbor... odd if things were to "work out".. then not "work out".
2. I don't have a lot of time for a relationship right now
3. Yeah, I don't have a third excuse.

But really, really good comments on the post.

Let me, um, rephrase this a bit. I don't want to "out do" her stereo system. The thing is, I AM wearing headphones whenever it gets blasted and-

Oh hell, you know, I SHOULD just go over there and tell her to turn it down (then ask if she wants a glass of wine!)

Ok, so the real question:
What is a really, really powerful "entry cost level" stereo system that would provide great playback for stereo music, theatre sound and has a decent signal to noise ratio (to answer both posts, yes, I love audiophile stuff, it costs a lot; and yes, the wattage can blow things away *ha ha, music majors CAN do some arithmetic!* but how about the best quality?)
:)

Sounds like we need a "manvention" here. If your gorgeous neighbor occasionally plays her music too loud, the thing to do is to pay attention and find out what music she is playing. When you see her some time tell her how much you like her music and that it sounds like she has a really great system to play it on. Play your cards right and you will be over there listening with her rather than complaining to us over-aged audio geeks on Yahoo Answers!

Sorry, but I have got to make a couple of more points here. I read the question you asked a while back in the singles and dating section and I would think a potential relationship here would outweigh any petty annoyances this girl brings to the table. You say she is gorgeous AND sweet. Trust me. I am 51 years old. That kind does not come around very often. You are in a perfect position to start a relationship with this wonderful girl and you are preoccupied with her occasional loud music? I say don't do anything stupid like trying to outdo her loud music. That will only antagonize her. Sorry if I sound harsh but you may just thank me for it later.

Go to your local store. Find a stereo system. Divide the wattage by the number of speakers.

So if a stereo has 400watts and 4 speakers = 100wats/speaker
vs.. a stereo that does 400watts with 2 speakers = 200watts/speaker.. then the latter can get louder.

It's the easiest way to gauge how loud a system can go.

Another option: wear headphones.
Or be a guy and ask nicely! If she's any decent she'll get the message without being offended.

well my system is louder than any of my neighbors, it consists of a sony reciever (3200) it cost about $900 a Boston Sub, about $100, two front speakers by Polk (monitor 50s) about $300, and four surround speakers by Polk, (Monitor 20s) (like $100 each). Oh Yeah, a center speaker by Polk Too, a CSR1 it cost like $150, its pricey, but tis worht it, the reciever volume goes from -50 to 50, i've only ever had it on -5 and it blew me away, im scared to turn it up any further

i'm an atheist. i've got not got a theory one way or the different. it form of feels available sensible existence varieties exist on different planets, even in all probability once you calculate the form of planets in the universe and extrapolate from popular planet shape how lots of those would have acceptable circumstances. yet in basic terms because of the fact something is available, or perhaps in all probability, does no longer mean that there is that this style of factor. i'd say that I settle for the prospect, yet have no reason to believe, or disbelieve, the fact. Please be conscious that it is suited to theoretical beings, no longer Arizona anal probe memories. And, as a facet be conscious, would desire to qualify "someplace else in the universe" as being area, in the time of my front room is "someplace else in the universe" than my physique's area.

Get soundproofing for your walls and then you can both play loud the music you both enjoy.
