The Tanakh (old testament) is still around because the Jewish people see at as "THE WORD OF Ha'Shem (G-D)".. Given to Moshe (Moses) on Mt Sinai... Combined with The Oral Law it makes up part Ha'Torah (The Torah)..
It's also the foundation of the Christian and Islamic religion.

Jesus did not repudiate it, he fullfilled it, there's a differance.
The Old Testament is very important. some things pass through the Cross, others do not.

Jesus was the FULFILLMENT of the old testament prophesies.
The old testament, as stated in the new testament, is there for examples, education, and admonishments.
It shows the long history that man and God have shared, and the progress man has made in God's plan.
