A lot of people picked me up wrong when I asked the above question,I believed in a God up until 15 years ago, that's when I took seriously ill, through no fault of my own,it was down to medication since then my health has worsened,I have had 2 heart attacks, recurrent blood clots on my lungs,my left lung is not working properly,I have peripheral vascular disease, nerve damage caused by surgery,I have had 6 instances of almost dying and in the past month I have suffered massive blood loss and have almost bled to death and in the past 4 weeks I have had blood transfusions totalling 6 pints on top of all this I am in severe pain 24/7 and due to all this happening in the past 15 years I have been unable to work and am therefore poverty stricken, there are other things in my life that I am not going to go into-these are the reasons I no longer believe in God-if there is a God as a lot of you think there is then he must have one sick and twisted sense of humour .

Your situation is unenviable.
The suffering in the world is something you would not expect a kind god to allow. The Christian persuasion of religion tell us that god is loving and kind. This is clearly a lie, as allowing people to suffer down the ages is not what I would call a display of love or kindness.
My view is that there are not any gods of any kind, I've said this before and have put a little in my blog.
The people who are pro god should try really hard to imagine the suffering that many people have to put up with daily, would the pro god people like to exchange places with someone who is experiencing physical suffering or grief over loved ones dying, or both?
There can never be an acceptable reason why a divine being would allow the suffering that humans and other creatures on this earth have endured.

Were you a 'born again' Christian? Did you have a real relationship with Jesus, 'The Living God'? Did you put all your Faith and trust in God to the extent that you did everything He asked you to? Did you become baptised in the Spirit?
Have you read what happened to Job?...Please pick up your Bible and read what God allowed to happen to Job in the Old Testament........ Decide what you are going to do about your relationship with God and take action.
Sorry to hear about the state you have been in but you need to do something yourself and stop whinging about God.
God has a sense of humour, believe me, but it is not one that laughs at people who are ill. He wants the best for you so what about you doing your best for Him?
Try an Alpha Course please for a start.....do it...don't just think about it.......No excuses...it is free...and on some you even get fed each time you go. It is a no pressure, non-denominational course which looks at the truth of the Gospels and what being a real Christian is.
http://www.alpha.org
There will be a course at a Church near you and you can find one on this website.
Best wishes and may the Lord give you the wisdom to seek His face....Mike.

Yes there is a God and He loves you! God test the character of those who are Christians. Some time the test is sever and some times it is not. God does not do evil to people but He will let satan. Read JOB in the Bible and you will see what true suffering is. Thank God for the good things in your life as well as the bad. If you have accepted Jesus into your heart then think of what heaven will be like and you can know true peace here on earth even in the trials. Even when evil people who belong to satan seek your life He is there with you through every trial.

Too many people have a misunderstanding about christianity.
And people like funnelweb should listen carefully.
Remember when Christ went into the wilderness for 40 days and was tempted 3 times by satan? Satan offered Christ HIS world if Jesus would just bow down before him.
This world is SATANS world. He is causing sickness and suffering, not God.
It sure is hard to continue to believe in God when you feel the wrath of satan, but God is there waiting for the allotted time. You have two choices, strengthen your relationship with God or surrender to satan......... sorry for your sufferring but don't blame god.

First I don't believe in any God, or at least one that has an impact in our lives.

Next, I'm sorry you've had such a rough go at life. I hope you can remain positive throughout your hardships, and I can only wish that you have a good group of friends and family to support you.

Last if the Bible pushers say that God is just testing your faith, don't let that bother you, when it comes down to it you are the only one that can create your perception of life, and I do believe despite the cards you've been unfortunately dealt, you still can lead a wonderful life full of great times, and positive experiences.

Best of luck to you.

I do not think that there is a God in the sense of one all-powerful being for the simple reason that if there was I am sure that there would not be all the 'religious' wars, terrorist attacks, sectarian violence (use whatever term suits your personal belief or sympathy) that there is today.

Personal problems and localised plagues/drought/flood/whatever could be explained as testing, but not, to my mind, inter- (or especially intra-) religion violence (e.g. Muslim sects in Iraq).

Many tragic happenings are simply the result of random events. Imagine, for example, that the wind blows a tree down and it injures someone. People may call this an act of God. But God did not make that tree fall down. The Bible helps us to appreciate that such things are simply the sad result of "time and unforeseen occurrence."—Ecclesiastes 9:11.
But isn't God powerful enough to end suffering now?' you may ask. Some faithful men in Bible times wondered about that. The prophet Habakkuk asked God: "Why is it that you look on those dealing treacherously, that you keep silent when someone wicked swallows up someone more righteous than he is?" However, Habakkuk did not jump to hasty conclusions. He said: "I shall keep watch, to see what he will speak by me." Later, God assured him that at an "appointed time," He would end suffering. (Habakkuk 1:13; 2:1-3) We must therefore be patient, waiting for God to end wickedness at his appointed time.
Avoid jumping to the rash conclusion that God somehow wants us to suffer or that he is personally testing us. It is true that suffering can bring out the best in us and that the Bible says that the trials God allows can refine our faith. (Hebrews 5:8; 1 Peter 1:7) Indeed, many people who undergo trialsome or traumatic experiences do become more patient or compassionate. But we should not conclude that their suffering was God's doing. Such thinking does not take God's love and wisdom into account. The Bible plainly states: "When under trial, let no one say: 'I am being tried by God.' For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone." On the contrary, from God comes "every good gift and every perfect present"!—James 1:13, 17.

God does indeed have a sick sense of humour; eat well, sleep well, your body can repair itself - put your mind to it, and help your body along with its job of fixing itself.

Remember: Religions do not represent the creator, they are too concerned with controlling your mind and turning you into a mindless passive sheep.

You clearly have been having a terrible time...and i do know some of how you feel--although my health problems are different from yours i relate to ur pain 24/7. We are made up of spirit soul and body--when the body is affected in ur case and mine (diseased ) it affects our spirit and soul--and often harmony is missing. I receive strength to go on through my belief in God--and really believe if you talk to Him you will find a new way of seeing yourself, you're illness, and God Himself--
Can i suggest you pray and ask Him to show you ways to improve you're lifestyle (quality of life)----you know God doesn't tell us life will be without problems--what He does promise us, He will never leave us to go through them alone. The serenity prayer is always a good one to start with--it's short and to the point--you can google it if interested....
I pray things will change for you-- : x )
Love and Blessings xxx
