Even with substitute swear words, it's still an unattractive habit. Instead of saying something like "ohhh man I'm in deep sh** now..." I would say something like "Well this doesn't look good..." Just find other words that still express what you're feeling.

This knocks me a back a bit - when at school I heard more swearing than actual language - I mean how can you speak in a language and say something by swearing and cussing yet still get a point over? Hmmm..lotsa folk get a way with it - especially the working folk.
What desgusts me about these outbursts is the fact of language usage in itself - there are people who educate themselves to the hilt yet cuss like the best of them!
If there was a language dictionary available there would only be four pages - of filth and lots of swear words and terms you could not possibly identify on your own. Whilst iNet gets more popularity the more remote regions and individual opinions come aboard with new swearing in other languages - this all makes our mother-tongue a kick in the pants! Why would a language so versatile as the English language still contain the biggest load of toss this side of decency?
It makes you wonder why we learn to speak in the first place. If we all swollowed our dictionaries the language barriers can only grow to the maturity levels expected of common decency and out right intelligent conversations pieces.
Perhaps you know that film and tv are most obstantate to adapt to changes of this order yet gloat on the larger word basis every year - whilst their programming contains more swear words than ever before.
Ok, this is getting boring - so adapt a change - apply a sweet name (oh cadbury! what happened to you?) or name a fruit instead. You can adapt to new speak - it's realising the fact first that's the first step.
Good luck.

I am 42 years old and don't swear in front of my parents. What I do is think before I speak. It helps in any situation. If that does not work for you, just use innocent words instead of swear words. Instead of using "F**K" say "Mars bars" or something like that. Good luck.

Make a "swear jar". Make a rule that every time you swear, you have to stick a dollar in the jar. Make another rule that you can't cash out the jar until an entire month has passed that you haven't used it. That ought to do the trick. :)
Either that or you'll start budgeting a "swear fund". Either way.

Work on expanding your vocabulary to substitute proper words for curse words...I've heard it said that "cursing just shows that one has a limited vocabulary"...so just think of it that way (kind of in a snobbish way) & it should help you quit...
Also, try to avoid watching television shows (like MTV, etc.), in which the people use a lot of swear words...these shows just show you how unclassy swearing comes across...and...try not to listen to a lot of music with swear words...it is bad how so much of the entertainment media incorporates swear words into one's everday vocabulary after a while...
I think it's great that you are trying to cut back on swearing...I wish others would, too!!! Good luck!!!

,Swearing comes into our language vocabulary as corrupt communication which the tongue is full of poison and causes one to be corrupt to the very core of their nature. The word of God states that mankind will be judged by every idle word that they speak. The word of God gives plain evidence of how the tongue proves the condition of the spirit. If one speak words that are considered defiled ,then, they should be on guard because if their words are defiled, so is their spirit and they are in need of deliverance..

You really have to make a conscious effort. I went from being a buyer in a factory to being a teacher. I needed to change my language BIG TIME! All I can say is pause before you speak and THINK, THINK, THINK. It does get easier. Good luck.

Who gives a rat's ***? Say what's on your mind and say it f***ing loud! If puritanical people can't deal with it, f*** 'em! Our society is hypocritical in this regard. We censor language on TV and radio, but almost everyone uses the words. To pretend offense is just pure idiotic bull-sh**! What we allow, however, is gratuitous violence and sexual inuendo. You can't suck a t** in the movies without getting an X-rating, but you can cut one off and maintain a PG-13. That's f***ed-up.

Use a thesaurus and find words to fit into the sentence where a curse word would go.
Hey, if anything, you'll expand your vocabulary.

Think before you speak or find another word to use. It doesn't make a man or a woman look good and it's so unnecessary. You learned the habit, you can unlearn it.
