I'm was invited to the Chicago Racquet Club "Last Days of Disco" event tonight. I've never been there, but wikipedia describes it as "a pretigious athletic club". Dress code on the invitation says "Disco Attire or Black Tie". As a girl who is not going in disco attire, should my dress be black? Any color? long? Short?

This sounds like a cocktail dress type of evening not necessarily a long formal gown. The color is up to you and what looks good on you but a little black dress is always safe. Just make sure it measures up to his tuxedo. The combination of disco attire and black tie is a little baffling since they are nothing alike.

The Racquet Club? That will be pretty fancy. You'll see women in both short and long formal attire. The rule of thumb is if the man is in a tux, his date should be in a long dress. Since it's also Disco Attire, you really can't go wrong with length or color. have fun!

Think of it as kind of a grown-up prom.

For white tie, a woman's dress would pretty much need to be floor-length, but for black-tie, it's basically formal wear. Since it has a disco theme, I wouldn't wear anything too long or mother-of-the-bride-y...be hip about it.

And don't rule out disco attire. Some of it was pretty cool. Keep an open mind about it.

BLACK TIE for women is a formal evening dress, either long or short that fits well and is in good taste. Matching accessories.

WHITE TIE for women is a long formal evening dress with long white gloves that come up over the elbow. Think of Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady going to the formal ball.

Hillary would just wear a pants suit and tell everyone to go jump in a lake.

it basically means "wear a dress" and look nice.
A short, simple dress is fine, especially in black with heels and some nice jewelry. Hair in an updo is never wrong, either.
It's a great chance to wear something long and glamorous, however! Black tie is also the one place it's never wrong to wear gloves...

You could wear a cocktail dress. Muted color would be best, say a taffeta maroon or a copper colored crepe. Heels are a must and so is an attractive evening bag. Remember, it's summer and a long dress might look oppressive.

Good luck and have fun!

For any event with "black tie" dress, you should wear a long fancy dress with plenty of color. If you choose to wear a black dress, it should have sparkles. "Black Tie" dress means your very fanciest, such as prom attire.

Your date can only choose a tux, but your black-tie options are limitless. Whether you choose satin or beads, a dress or a long skirt and top, remember that black-tie means very formal. For suggestions and tips you might want to try http://www.ehow.com/how_1463_dress-black-tie.html
