i have visibally lost weight, seen in the mirror, and also using my tape measure. hwoever, my weight has stayed at the same point for the last couple of weeks, despite 90 mins of hard exercise in the gym 4 times a week, burning generally 1000 cals, and eating 1800 (roughly).

i am doing weight traiing, so is this why my weight hasnt dropped? my arms are a lot stronger, which is visiblly clar by the defined muscle, but also the strength when i feel it.

please tell me that im doing ok (if i am) and how i can aid my weight loss further. im looking to drop to about 120, for a better bmi.

Muscle is heavier than fat - so you've lost fat and gained muscle. Well done.

1. You might be trading fat for muscle which weighs more. I would worry more about the BMI than the weight.

2. You aren't eating enough calories, so your body is storing any it can to support your training regimen which will mean you will not lose any more weight. Try adding in a protein shake (soy or whey) from an organic food store to get the additional calories.

3. Try changing your routine - sometimes your body needs a change - try hiring a trainer for one or two sessions to give you a different routine. Have the trainer measure your real BMI and give you an assessment of where you should be.

4. Talk with a nutritionist who can give you good advice on how to add the right kind of calories.

You are doing great - time to switch things up and change your focus a big from the scale to the other measurable results ( the tape measure and the BMI). Maybe 120 is too low for your body. try to set a different target!!

Keep up the good work!

Can't help on the weight loss itself but you do need to weigh yourself first thing in the morning as you will then get your true weight! Weighing yourself at any other time only adds on what you have eaten the hours before...!
Also the more muscle mass you have the more cals your lose, don't give up as this will not happen over night, try mixing up your routine with cardio as well as your standard weights and always let your body recover between sessions, try weights one day then cardio the next.....
Good luck.

a This is normal.

What is taking place in your body is the process of using your subcutaneous fat which also contains a considerable amount of water.

Subcutaneous fat is found just beneath the skin as opposed to visceral fat which is found in the peritoneal cavity.

What has happened is that the subcutaneous fat has been used to fuel you gym/workout routine.

This can have dramatic visual effect from you own perspective and also by other people who do not see you on a regular basis.

Your weight change at the begin of you training regime would have been quite dramatic but has now reached a plateau.

This is normal as you muscle density has increased and will continue to increase with this level of workout. which also means that weight loss will diminish as you have less fat to work with, also your body is now storing more energy (carbohydrate) ready for your workout.

bmi is used as an indicator for sedentary people and looses it effect when dealing with athletes, bodybuilders or anybody that follows a vigorous training regime so do not rely on this totally.

Weight now is not as important as body shape. Keep up the good work. You are very young and have started on a regime that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

You are doing great! Don't get too crazy with trying to drop so much weight. One step you might consider is cutting out all processed sugar - - none, nada, zilch. I'd also stop drinking diet drinks (too much sodium.)

Drink A LOT of water all day long and eat light protein snacks twice a day in between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner. (usually at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm).

DON'T eat after 7:00pm!!!

You'll drop those last 15 pounds in no time.

Now it's just muscle weight. You may be losing fat and everything, but now it's just muscle. You say that you're doing hard exercise in the gym 4 times a week, and that you can feel strength as well. That's definetly muscle.

hi the reason is that all of the fat you are truning into muscle and muscle weighs more than fat .. that means that you are also burning much more fat than gaining muscle which is really good.. if you want to physically lose weight and not look better then try more cardio like running or aerobics that will not defina your muscles as much but will brun muchoooo fat !

hope that this has helped
well done by the way for having this much willpower
you are doing just fine
xx

You're doing just fine. You've got to remember that when you're dieting sometimes your body will automatically try to keep the weight on. But as long you keep on the same diet and exercise program you'll still keep losing. Just give it another week or so and you'll start losing weight again.

You're fine. You're not dropping weight because you're building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

If you continue to use more calories than you take in, you will eventually lose weight. But I'm not sure I'd focus completely on weight, I'd keep an eye on how strong, energetic I feel and how many sizes in clothes I drop.

Great that you're exercising. Keep it up!

I suggest to people who are in a plateau to keep a diary of what they eat. I'm sure some of your weight is muscle but that should help burn the fat and weight. Try dropping down to 1700 calories for a week or two and remember to track what you eat.

Maybe you lost the weight with fat, but have put on weight with muscles, so the extra weight you may have is from muscles, not fat.
